Great sushi, staff was very attentive and kind. Got there at 5 and was seated immediately. By the time we left every other table was filled.
I walked in at 5 and got a table immediately but the restaurant filled up quickly. I got the mexicana roll and a half roll of surf and turf. Both were melt in mouth amazing. The lychee martini was also very tasty. The staff was very nice. Looking forward to my next visit.
I had don katsu. It was okay. Waitress was nice but the other staff treated us a bit weirdly. My friends had the sushi rolls, which they liked so I might have been unlucky with the food. But regarding the service, the staff didn't really treat us properly while we were waiting for our table to be ready.
Amazing food! Everything was delicious. The Mexicana sushi roll was the bomb - highly recommend! Great portions and quality. The atmosphere is also really nice and peaceful.
Umai is a hidden gem in Chicago! The atmosphere is sleek yet relaxed — perfect for a dinner date, night out with friends, or solo sushi fix. The service was friendly and attentive without being overbearing. I tried a variety of sashimi, and every single one was fresh, beautifully plated, and full of flavor. The fish was high quality and melted in my mouth. Prices are reasonable for the quality you get, and they have a great drink selection too. Umai definitely earns a spot on my go-to list for sushi in Chicago.
