Dr. Hamman, Naz, and the entire team at West Dermatology are truly exceptional. From the moment I walked in, I was met with such warmth, kindness, and genuine care. I was honestly blown away by my experience. They made me feel heard, comfortable, and completely at ease - something that’s rare and so appreciated. This practice sets the bar incredibly high, not just clinically but humanly. I’m so grateful to have found them.
Paid $96 for labs that I’ve never done IN OFFICE, right before my birthmark removal surgery, and have since been repeatedly harrassed in the mail for the same exact “labs” that I already paid for! I’ve only ever been to this office (West Dermatology La Jolla) thrice, once for the initial consultation with Dr. Hamman where we discussed my facial birthmark and he clearly confirmed that labs weren’t needed, the second time was the actual date of the surgery, and the third/last time was my post-surgery follow-up to remove sutures. I have never been anywhere else for labs or spoken to any other provider except Dr. Hamman. I was given a paper quote for the surgery on my first visit, but paid $96 more than that on the day of the surgery (I still have the paper quote and receipt of all transactions). I only realized this in hindsight when I received an invoice in the mail a couple weeks later for labs that were a familiar $96. I called the “West Dermatology Laboratory” number listed on these bills twice, with great difficulty in reaching an actual person, to explain how not only did I 1) already pay that amount in office, but 2) I never had any labs done to begin with! They said they would file a case and clarify with Dr. Hamman’s office, but not only did they never get back to me as promised, I’ve been repeatedly sent more bills in the mail for the past 6 months!! I’ve tried calling the West Dermatology La Jolla office’s front desk myself, but could never reach anyone in billing and my voicemail was never returned. Now I’m stuck having to pay $192 for labs I’ve never done, and stuck repeatedly dialing the same West Dermatology Laboratory patient financial services line and speaking to multiple people in India who never communicate or relay information to each other. I have even asked for these so-called “lab results” which of course nobody has, because they don’t exist! I had my surgery in June and it is now December. I’m not even upset about the initial false charge for a service I never got, but constantly getting billed in the mail for even more money is rubbing salt in the wound. I’m pleading for West Dermatology La Jolla’s front desk or billing staff to follow up with me on this matter, because the very first person to wrongly charge my credit card for these labs was a front desk receptionist on June 16th at 1:30PM. The coordinator that compiled my list of “suggested” procedures (where labs were brought up) was Lauren S. I will not accept the generic apology that this office responds to bad reviews with, asking us to “reach out” to someone when I’ve had ZERO luck so far trying to do so! The image evidence shows my name, and I know this office has my number. Nothing will be taken down until amends are made. I can see from the other negative reviews that there are other patients (regulars at that) who have been incorrectly charged while not being able to get in touch with a single staff member. As someone who also works in a doctor’s office myself, this conduct is incredibly disappointing and so is my first (now last) impression of West Dermatology.
As with many of the reviews highlighting the poorly run front office and medical assistants, I have to echo the same concerns. I had been a patient for several years, my husband and daughter are also patients. I am now in the process of getting us all moved to a new practice as the competence of this office is so incredibly concerning that I cannot trust that I am getting the care I need. No one is ever available to answer the phone nor do they return calls. I have had a billing question for over a month and cannot get a call in to discuss it. Good luck getting biopsy results. Better make sure you pay attention because they may mark your biopsy site incorrectly as I have experienced. I truly have never seen such a poorly run office. And, in case anyone is wondering...I am STILL waiting for a return call regarding my bill (it's been over a month) Stay away from any and all West Dermatology Practices until they implement GOOD PRACTICES.
If you got a price hike for your Monoxidil prescription, get the generic for Loniten from "Cost Plus Drug Company" (yes, the one co-founded by Mark Cuban) online for a laughably more affordable price. Dr. Zubair is indeed the no nonsense, no judgement, get the job done option. Staff kindness is conditional on patients not being rude to them.
