I recently took part in a five‑day camp at the YCA, and it was an incredible experience. During the program, my dog made huge progress — especially in reducing reactivity toward other dogs. I also learned a lot about canine body language, effective training tools, and how to better understand my dog’s needs. The trainers were extremely knowledgeable, supportive, and clearly passionate about what they do. Their guidance made the whole experience not only educational but also genuinely enjoyable. I left the camp feeling more confident, better equipped, and with a much stronger bond with my dog. I highly recommend this academy to anyone looking to improve their dog’s behaviour and deepen their own training skills.
Outstanding, No‑Nonsense, Life‑Changing We’ve just completed the Yorkshire Canine Academy’s intensive dog training bootcamp, and it has been nothing short of transformative for me and my dog, Bisley. This programme specialises in reactivity and behaviour, and their no‑nonsense, hard‑line approach is exactly what we needed — firm, fair, structured, and incredibly effective. Kirky led the team with calm reassurance and absolute clarity, setting the tone from day one. A special shout‑out has to go to the rest of the crew: Owain’s enthusiasm was infectious, Simao’s friendliness made every session feel approachable, and Alex kept spirits high with his humour. All four were knowledgeable, professional, and seamlessly intermingled throughout the bootcamp, meaning there was always someone available to answer a question or guide us through a tricky moment. The training itself was intense, methodical, and brilliantly delivered. We worked through essential tools and techniques including: • Charging the marker • Punishment marker • Slip collars • Prong collars • E‑collars Alongside this, we covered heel work, place training, recall, and even the underrated art of doing nothing — all crucial foundations for a stable, reliable dog. Watching reactive dogs slowly and safely come together under expert supervision was genuinely impressive and gave us huge confidence in the process. It was thoroughly enjoyable yet undeniably exhausting — in the best possible way. We left with a wealth of formulas, structure, and practical skills tailored to Bisley, plus ongoing support that makes the whole experience feel sustainable rather than a one‑off crash course. In addition to the drill masters Toni, headed up the customer service team, where nothing was too much trouble, even though I am sure she and Chloe have heard all the questions a thousand times before, they made me feel so welcome. If you’re serious about changing your dog’s behaviour and ready to put in the work, Yorkshire Canine Academy delivers results. We couldn’t recommend them more highly, we also got a quick snap with Jacob who took time away from his social media to say hello 😀
YCA Reactive Boot Camp – A Life-Changing Experience We attended the YCA five-day reactive boot camp in April 2025, and the results speak for themselves. We deliberately waited before writing this testimonial because real change takes time — and the YCA delivers lasting results. Rubix, our Border Collie, has featured in several of Jacob’s videos and was often referred to as the crazy Border Collie. Her transformation was not a fluke. The techniques we learned, and continue to apply, have completely changed her quality of life — and ours. Since the boot camp, Rubix has joined agility and swimming classes, regularly attends pack walks, and confidently navigates street walks around our home — something that was impossible before due to the number of dogs in the area. We now enjoy country parks, river paddles, beach trips, caravan holidays, and dog-friendly restaurants, all without stress or anxiety. We’ve also taken her to a flyball event and a dog show, as a spectator, completed the Walk 60 Miles With Your Dog challenge for Cancer Research (raising nearly £700), and tackled a wide range of environments including city walks, school runs, and busy public spaces. To finish the year, Rubix even attended Santa Paws with a pack of seven dogs — something we could never have imagined before visiting the YCA. Rubix isn’t perfect — no dog is — but when challenges arise, we know how to handle them. The training works, and it lasts. Before visiting the YCA, we walked at unsociable hours and avoided dogs entirely. I hesitated over the cost after spending more than £4,500 on unsuccessful trainers, but choosing the YCA was the best decision we ever made. If you’re unsure, don’t be — commit fully, practise consistently, and the results will follow. The ongoing support from Jacob, Kirky, Elisha, and the entire YCA team has been outstanding. Their genuine interest in Rubix’s progress speaks volumes. We are incredibly proud of how far Rubix has come — and endlessly grateful to the YCA for making it possible.
From our very first video call with Chloe, we knew we’d chosen the right team. Everyone at Yorkshire Canine Academy has been incredibly invested in helping both us and our dog succeed. Our training sessions with Elisha, Owain, and Kirky were brilliant — they are all so knowledgeable, calm, and patient. We were initially hesitant about using tools like e-collars and prong collars, but Elisha and Owain took the time to explain everything clearly and showed us how to use them safely and effectively. Their guidance completely changed our perspective. These tools have made such a positive difference and is allowing our dog to live with freedom, confidence, and structure. If anyone is unsure about these training methods, I’d really encourage having an open chat with the team. They make sure everything is done ethically, responsibly, and with the dog’s wellbeing as the top priority. Our dog Rece started off reactive to other dogs, with no recall and very little interest in play. After completing the Boot Camp, we can now walk him off lead, and we’re genuinely excited to keep watching his progression. We learnt so much — from structured play, recall, and engagement, to managing downtime and building calmness. Thank you so much, Yorkshire Canine Academy, for giving us the tools, knowledge, and confidence to enjoy life with our dog to the fullest. We can’t recommend you enough! 🐾💛
Had a wonderful 5 day development training week at YCA. I brought my 13 months old Belgian Malinois, who was very much dog reactive and I used to feel limited about where we go. After 5 days course his reactivity was gone and I have so much more confidence to take him to parks and even restaurants/pubs. The change after training was amazing, 20% of training gave 80% results. I’m so thankful to Jacob and the whole YCA team for their kindness, patience and support. It truly opened a new chapter for me and my dog Odin. Highly recommend!
