it worked well till it didnt. The facilities are average. My kid did not like 'open showers' What was tipping point for our exit was when a makeup session that went wrong for us. The coach insisted on starting the class with back flip. My kid was not comfortable and cried. I got her out and explained to coach that she is not ready for this. The coach crudely replied that his class is at this level only and turned away. I took my kid home and never returned. I did report the incident to management. I feel the coach behaviour and not being inclusive was inappropriate.
This pool is way too crowded at peak times with children for swim lessons. I don’t believe the owners of the facility have a good standard for how many lessons to allow at once. Their low teacher to student ratio does not make up for over-crowding in my mind. The teachers in general seemed somewhat tired when teaching, especially during peak times. My child enjoyed lessons, but learned more about swimming on one family vacation than she did at 4 months of lessons here. I personally was a swim instructor and lifeguard for 10 years and have worked at many facilities across the country, private and public. It’s a nice place for lessons, but lacking some standards as to maximize profitability.
We love it here! My toddler started going since he was 6 months old. And he remembers every teacher he had a lesson with. All teachers are well prepared for class, know their kids (likes / dislikes), give a summary of class (for independent kids). Special shoutout to miss Mellissa, jasmine and Meghan !
My daughter loves Ms. Marissa. She is such a great coach. She has helped my daughter go from being afraid to put her face in the water in June/July to loving being in the water, and now even learning how to do strokes. What I love the most is that everything they learn is focused on water safety along with skill. I really appreciate her clear communication to me as well when it comes to what my daughter is focusing on. For AVAC over all I really appreciate the friendliness and cleanliness of the facility. I also like that if we have to miss a day that they are very flexible about making up the day. I highly recommend AVAC Swim.
ACAV Sports Club and Swim School are a part of Almaden History. Established in 1963. They have movie nights, kids programs, summer camps, Halloween parties, special events on holidays, and the best swim school in the Bay Area. There are 2 Swim Coaches I'd like to appreciate and recommend. Ms. Elina: We had the pleasure of having Ms. Elina as the Coach for our kid. He loved her style of teaching and was excited to go every week. She had a calm and warm demeanor, always cheerful with a smile, and made the swimming lessons fun while teaching life-long skills. She had a great follow-up every week. We loved working with her. Mr. Duncan: His style is very unique. He has a great mix of fun, goals, discipline, and results. All the kids love him and follow his directions. It is a drill that kids enjoy like a game and learn hard skills for life. We enjoy every lesson with him, and all the kids don't want to stop.
