I really enjoy this small little bakery that you can find in Edgewater Public Market that serves pastries, croissants, and coffee items. The parking lot is a good size and I didn’t have a hard time finding a spot and luckily in the front, but of course this was a little later in the morning, so I most likely beat the rush. I wish I stayed longer in the area to try more pastries both savory and sweet, but I enjoy what I was able to try. I grabbed an iced beverage and one sweet and savory item to eat. The first was their sausage roll which I did enjoy but was a little bit more on the saltier side, but the croissant helped balance it out. I also had their raspberry croissant/ muffin, cruffin. And it was delightful. I thought it would be dry, but the croissant was of course delicious and flakey and filled with a thick raspberry flavored cream. The staff here is efficient, and the waiting time was minimal, but again I’m sure on busier days, I am sure there would be a longer line than the one I waited in. I would come back again.
Love this bakery in Edgewater Market place. Go here often to meet people for a cup of coffee and a pastry or to just pick up a fresh baked loaf of Sourdough or baguette. If you pre order you can pick up at the window outside. Otherwise go inside . There is plenty of seating. The staff is always excellent
I stopped by Black Box Bakery in Edgewater and tried the Strawberry Milk croissant and the Cookies & Cream croissant. Their packaging is impressive — the see-through film looks clean and modern, and the presentation of the pastries is definitely eye-catching. You can tell they put thought into their branding and creativity. The croissants themselves are unique: very thick, sweet, and layered — not the typical soft, airy croissant you’d find at a grocery store. Because of how dense they are, one pastry can easily be shared between two people. It almost feels closer to a dessert than a traditional croissant. It’s clearly a popular spot; there’s usually a line, and most items sell out by noon. The only thing that kept me from giving a full 5 stars is the pricing. Most items are $6 and above, which makes it a bit harder to try more things in one visit. The quality is good, but for a single croissant, the price does feel on the higher side.
The Nutella spaceship is a unique experience. It has everything I want in a sweet pastry. I’ve only ever gotten this and a plain croissant and these alone give me confidence that every single item they sell is fantastic. The spaceship is a roll of croissant dough thats been proofed and baked into a unique shape with Nutella in it, dipped in white chocolate then shortbread crumbs. Topped with brownie bites. It is chocolatey, flakey, stretchy, salty, buttery goodness. Absolutely in love. The lamination on this thing is so consistent and perfect, really an impressive and tasty creation.
I tried ordering the evening before, but their store must have to be opened to order anything since everything was pretty much sold out. Stopped by Tuesday morning around 10am and I love their table with all the pastries displayed! Tried the following: — Pride Croissant - earl grey with fruity pebbles (they said it was like a cereal milk and they were right!) — Pink Pony cube croissant - wow. So good filled with elderflower English cream and strawberry jam — Strawberry Milk Croissant - got this frozen since it was the only item of the 3 that could be brought like this (there were also others that could be purchased frozen). Appreciated they vacuum sealed the croissant and they gave a massive pastry pipping bag of the filling, but unfortunately, I had to toss the filling bag going through airport security
