The summer /holiday hours are trash. Its also WAY TOO HOT. Ironically the Sauna isn't hot enough. Hence the signs not to pour water on the Sauna to make it hotter, which nobody cares about. Its hard to stick to a consistent routine and split when they pick days to close way early or not be open at all. They close for a full week during December for Christmas. I dont know how many times I've drove a day or so after a holiday or at the wrong hour on a Friday just to realize they are closed. They got the staff working banker hours. Most people I know from BSU that age who have jobs are working until midnight on weekends. Again, how do you do a 6 or even 5 day split when they close at 5PM on weekends? Such a pain. Seems like they dont have the budget for much at all, which is ironic when I've had the misfortune of having to pay for an overpriced membership so many times when I fall below full-time or want to go in the summer.
The Boise State Rec is an amazing place. Super clean. Great staff. Wonderful sauna. Spacious. If you're a student at Boise State, don't miss out on this great amenity! (You'll probably miss it later.)
Mostly here for swimming. Great pool quality and clear visibility without smell. Neat locker room and shower equipment. Good programs of kids swimming lessons. Friendly staff, too.
Great selection of equipment, well stocked weight room. The snobby gym rat dudes can be a little off putting in the weight room, and I've been advised more than once that I should lift lighter with more reps cuz I'm a lady, but after giving them a good glare and doing my thing they back off. They aren't mean or rude, just presumptuous. I prefer to go late at night so I don't have to wait for barbells and such, but even during peak hours I've been able to find something else to do. Staff is always friendly, and generally people have a good vibe.
Plenty of cardio equipment as well as a 1/11 mile indoor track. Lots of free weights and three basketball courts. Overall it's not usually too crowded here, but weights and basketball courts sometimes get too full. The pool has plenty of lanes and the racquetball courts are almost always available.
