A must-visit in New Orleans! The beignets were fresh, hot, and perfectly powdered, and the chicory coffee paired perfectly. The menu is simple, service is quick, and the experience is truly iconic. The only downside is that the café accepts cash only it would be much more convenient if credit cards were accepted. Otherwise, definitely worth the stop.
Visiting the original Café du Monde, right across from St. Louis Cathedral, is a must-do in New Orleans. Even on a holiday, the wait was only about 10 minutes, and everything was fresh and worth it. The beignets were hot, fluffy, and delicious, and the chicory coffee paired perfectly with them — everyone should try that combo at least once. The atmosphere feels classic and timeless. Important tip: this location is cash only — no cards or Apple Pay — so come prepared. A true NOLA experience!
Cafe du Monde – Honest Review With the iconic reputation that precedes Cafe du Monde, especially its more than 100-year legacy, we arrived expecting to be truly impressed by the famous beignets everyone raves about. Unfortunately, the experience fell short of the hype. The beignets tasted like simple fried dough topped with powdered sugar. In all honesty, we have had better doughnuts at Tim Hortons back home in Canada. The coffee with chicory was enjoyable enough — creamy, but mainly because of the added cream. The service left something to be desired. The waiter was noticeably cocky; when the bill came to about $15 and I handed him a $20, he remarked, “Thank you, this is my tip.” I chose to ignore it, but it certainly did not elevate the experience. Now, the parts that did live up to expectations: the atmosphere and the view. Sitting under the fans, watching people stroll by, soaking in the energy and personality of New Orleans — that was the real charm. That feeling of life happening around you is what made the visit worthwhile. Would I call it a must-visit? Not necessarily. It is an iconic stop and worth checking off the list for the heritage and ambiance, but for food quality alone, it is not a 100% sell for me.
THIS PLACE ACCEPTS CASH ONLY!! Café du Monde is an iconic stop in New Orleans and definitely worth visiting at least once. The beignets are fresh, hot, and generously coated with powdered sugar—simple but delicious. Paired with their café au lait, it’s a classic New Orleans experience. The café is always busy and can get crowded, especially during peak hours, but the service moves fairly quickly considering the volume of people. Seating is mostly open-air, which adds to the charm and atmosphere. Overall, Café du Monde is a must-visit for anyone in NOLA. Great beignets, good coffee, and a true New Orleans classic.
kay, these beignets are delicious, melt in the mouth and very fresh! The chicory coffee is rich and satisfying. My cup was just broken but they gave me a new one. Be prepared for crowds, and note that tables are first-come, first-served. You are probably going to stand in a line, but I was pleasantly surprised how fast it moved. Don't forget to bring cash, they don't accept cards. Café du Monde is a New Orleans icon that's definitely worth visiting, even if it's not entirely "exceptional". The retro vibe is enhanced by live musicians, and the atmosphere is lively with blues music playing right next to the coffee shop. As a cultural landmark, it's fascinating to learn about its past, and the crowds are a testament to its popularity. The real charm lies in the history and culture. Be prepared for powdered sugar to get everywhere, lol! The only drawback is the restroom, which could use some TLC. Still, it's a must-visit spot in New Orleans, and you'll likely leave with a sweet treat and a memorable experience.
