Customer service feels like it’s disappearing. There’s plenty of security, but very little actual customer care. That said, Anne Marie at the Upper James store was absolutely lovely, friendly, patient, and genuinely helpful. We need more people like her. Everything feels so transactional these days, and her kindness really stood out.
It’s because of the proximity to my daughter’s house we find ourselves at this location a few times a month. Our ‘home’ store is the Canadian Tire in Ancaster. This 5 star review is due to three individuals. Peter, a wonderful knowledgeable greeter. Glenn, extremely helpful and Nik, who knows what needs to be done and will take a business approach and I appreciate that. Each of these individuals will treat you like they would they themselves would like to be treated. Now, if you need to go to Customer Service (not sure this is the correct description) or you need help on the floor and these three above mentioned individuals are not available it will be a challenge for you. If you work in “customer service” you really should be in that role to help customers resolve any concerns they may have. I get not all customers can be pleasant, but the whole concept of customer service should be to assist customers. My message to senior management, please extend my gratitude to Peter, Glenn & Nik and perhaps allow them to assist other staff members on what the customer experience should be.
Sadly, I must give Canadian Tire Auto Shop 0 stars after the worst experience I’ve ever had with any business. They force you to give at least one, but one star gives them more credit than is due. They installed my all-weather tires backwards (treads facing the wrong direction), which led to one of them popping while I was driving to Alberta — a dangerous and costly mistake. The blowout also damaged my rim. When I contacted the store, they denied any responsibility, even though both the tire manufacturer’s guide and Drive On (the Ontario safety inspection authority) confirmed in writing that reversed installation can cause tire failure. Despite this proof, they have refused to replace my rim or correct their mistake. To make things worse, several staff members were rude and dismissive. One employee sarcastically asked, “Well, what do you want me to do?” and another, Aldo Jr., refused to give me his company email when I asked to document our conversation — which says a lot about how unwilling they are to take accountability. The only exception was Kim, who was kind and professional. I’m filing complaints with OMVIC and Consumer Protection Ontario, and I’ll be seeking legal advice because this situation involves negligence and refusal to take responsibility. I even have the original paperwork where they checked off that the treads were okay upon inspection, which clearly they did not do. All I’ve asked is that they restore my car to the condition it was in before their mistake — with properly installed tires and a replacement rim. Instead, they’ve made the situation worse by refusing to own up to it. Do not trust this location with your vehicle. If anything goes wrong, they will deny, deflect, and leave you to deal with the consequences. Absolutely unacceptable experience.
My son teenager came to visiting out of town a friend who is going to school there. While he was there his noticed his tire was going flat and found the puncture. He was smart enough to drop off after hours cause he knew it would be completely flat the next morning. He got up and was at Canadian Tire at 7:30am the next morning. Only to be told he had no appointment and they were to busy. And couldn't help him . Told him to go elsewhere. Wow I really do understand the they are busy doing install of winter tires. And yes he didn't have an appointment. Kind of hard to make an appointment when emergencies happen. And to be told to go elsewhere with a flat tire. Very disappointed considering he was from out of town and they couldn't step up and help . Not even take 20-30 minutes to help. Definitely not the Normal Canadian Tire standards I have experienced over the years. But on positive note found a great company Active Green and Ross just down the street who stepped up and help him . Putting a mother's mind at easy.
This Canadian Tire is a go-to for me! The store is always clean and well-stocked, making it easy to find everything from home essentials to car supplies. I recently stopped by for winter tire advice, and the staff was fantastic—they really knew their stuff and helped me pick out exactly what I needed without any upselling. Sometimes it gets a little busy, especially on the weekends, but the lines move pretty quickly, and parking is easy to find. It’s a reliable, convenient spot that makes shopping simple, whether I’m picking up one thing or tackling a longer list.
