I would give zero stars if that were an option. The front desk staff was rude, condescending, and unprofessional. I was questioned extensively and had my status as a VCU student challenged, despite having already paid the required university fee that should cover gym access. Rather than verifying this appropriately, I was told to either pay $15 for a guest pass or leave. While another staff member later confirmed my student status, had me sign in, and allowed access, the inconsistency in staff knowledge and treatment was frustrating and unacceptable. The facility itself is nice, but the front desk experience was very disappointing.

I've enjoyed the Cary street gym for several years now. It has become crowded especially during the school year and the equipment could be updated, but the space is useful and safe. People are friendly and it is open to non students.

Been a member of this gym for over 10years. Love that there's no overhead music, always a nice temperature, staff are quick to fix broken equipment when it happens. They are usually a little packed because everyone wants to go there. Only complaint is the showers, the water doesn't get nearly hot enough and the curtains don't close all the way so you can see through. Still wouldn't go anywhere else. Thanks for being open to the community.

Huge space, indoor rock wall, with almost every amenity you could think of. Personally I’m not a huge fan of the style treadmills they have but the track is where I do my running. It’s a huge gym so some things get over looked and customer service isn’t a top priority. All in all it’s the best gym I’ve been a part of and happy to be there.

Signed up for the community member membership as I am no longer a student, a little pricey but the facilities are nice. Front desk persons sign me up for what I believe to be a month to month 45$ plan. I get injured in beginning of Feb, don't use facilities due to said injury then get a email from their front of office saying I cannot return to gym until I sign some paperwork they forgot to have me sign. So a month passes by, I don't go because I'm injured and I assume, wrongfully, that because I they missed having me sign paperwork they wouldn't be charging me since I am by their own admission not allowed back in until I sign said paperwork. I find they charged me for the month of March, I call in asking for a refund on the voicemail stating the situation. I'm called back a few hours later by the person who claims to be in charge of the Rec Office membership and this individual very rudely, and sternly proceeds to tell me I've broken their terms of service for my apparent 1 year contract I signed. This was news to me. And if I request a refund for Feb and March I'd need to prove with a doctors note that I was out for Feb, and they'd only refund me March out of good will and that I am never allowed to use the "month to month year plan" option ever again and only am allowed to use the 1 time yearly membership plan. I explained to the guy I had no idea I even signed a year contract and that was definitely not the information given to me when I signed up at the front desk. He could quite frankly careless, you could tell he just wanted to get off the phone call even though it already hardly a two minute conversation. It seems that as nice as the facilities are, the staff seems a bit uncaring and under trained. I shouldn't have been signed up for a year contract under the guise of it being month to month, and I definitely don't believe I deserve such rude candor over a simple refund request over an injury.
