Edit after owner’s comment: You’ll notice I never said that it was impossible for a cat to have hyperthyroidism and ckd. I specifically said that the vet at McClelland’s said it was impossible for HER to have ckd. And specifically, it was her urine specific gravity being NORMAL that showed the new vet she did not have ckd. Urine specific gravity shows how the kidneys are functioning. Simply checking creatinine and BUN levels is not enough as those are not the full indicator of kidney functioning. They never tested her urine at City Creatures, so Dr. Pera’s diagnosis was never fully verified. Not only that, but Methimazole, the medication Clara is on for her hyperthyroidism, is known to be hard on the kidneys, which can raise the creatinine and BUN levels, which is the case for Clara. After a month of halving her Methimazole per the new vet’s recommendation, her creatinine and bun levels went back to normal. No, she does not have kidney disease. Also, a 1.0 for T4 levels is very low, and now it’s back to normal again as well. Thanks for trying to kill my cat. I hope you guys go out of business. P.S. it’s cheaper at McClelland’s too, so if you go there, you’ll save money and not have the vets try to kill your pets 😊 Original review: My one cat was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism in the fall, which we’ve been treating under Dr. Pera’s care. She then got her thyroid levels and kidney levels rechecked in January. After which, Dr. Pera told me she now has stage 1 kidney disease as well. The issue is that her T4 (thyroid) levels were now at 1.0 where the reference interval was 0.8 - 4.7. This means her T4 levels were very low and indicated too strong of a dose of her medicine. We went and got a second opinion from McClelland’s Small Animal Hospital and it turns out the thyroid medicine is very tough on kidneys and that doing a lower dose of the thyroid medicine would help. Apparently, also her urine was not tested and a urine test is necessary for testing for kidney disease. They ran that at McClelland’s and they found that it was actually impossible for her to have kidney disease. Not only did Dr. Pera fail to mention that her T4 levels were very low, she failed to mention that the medicine could be impacting her kidneys causing the high creatinine levels. She also failed to do adequate testing to confirm her diagnosis and leaving my cat on the high dosage of thyroid medicine would’ve likely caused actual kidney disease in the future.

Used to be a great animal hospital. Took care of my animals for many years. When my dog was seen recently by them for an issue they told me to call if anything changes and they'll see her immediately. When I called they turned their backs on her during normal business hours. No longer taking my animals there as it is not about the animals for them, only themselves now. Reply to CC statement - Lying doesn't help. I called 82 minutes before, not 15. Your receptionist was rude and uncaring, and is a big part of the problem. Also, you neglect to address that I was TOLD TO CALL AND WOULD BE SEEN IMMEDIATELY BY YOUR STAFF AND DOCTOR. Stop trying to play the victim here. Take a look at the reviews you've received for the last 6 months and you'll see you are the problem, not me or your other previous long term clients. Oh and as a final note, my dog did die and you don't care.

I've been to this vet over the course of multiple years with multiple animals, ranging from birds to my dogs to my cats. Unfortunately it has seemed to take a dive in service and attentiveness. They made a "mix up " with my cat and another clients cat and gave my pet unauthorized shots when it was supposed to be a normal yearly check in. Albeit a harmless shot, the dose and medication was for an entirely different animal and it could have been potentially MUCH worse just out of pure negligence. On top of that, the staff in the lobby was loudly complaining about other workers in a pretty unprofessional manner which made us very uncomfortable with the competency of the people who are trusted to take care of our pets. Dr. Ernst has been wonderful with all of our pets, but unfortunately due to this situation and the behavior and speech of the staff up front, we will be no longer be using City Creatures services.

First time here and I saw Dr Albert. 2 days after I called I was a able to get my two frogs in for a suspected bacterial infection. Initially I had an appointment for one but an hour before my appointment I called and asked if they can see both and they did. I really appreciate the last min flexibility. The price was very reasonable. The techs were very nice and the Dr was great. It’s not easy to find an exotic vet especially on short notice so I would def recommend them. A+
