I needed some challenge in my art process so I went to a 2-day workshop even if I've never done pastels before. It didn't take long to realize how skilled she is at teaching. Moreover she's an international-level artist and that's because she masters composition, light, values, color, drawing. I went there just for a fun weekend but now I am hooked to pastels. I also feel Melissa can challenge me for years if I want to. I've met several art teachers, university level and private ones, but I learned more in 2 days than any training I had after the same amount of time. There's no question she can't answer. And people who know what I can produce were very impressed by the results . She brought my art to the next level.

Because I have taken many art classes over the last 10 years with a variety of teachers in three different mediums, I feel confidant in my opinion regarding Melissa’s strengths as a teacher in the field. With her guidance, my drawing skills advanced far more quickly compared to other classes I have attended, while her expertise in soft pastel makes her the perfect teacher for both beginners, as I was, as well as more experienced painters. Melissa uses a meticulous and methodical approach to teaching that quickly garners results . Whether it’s the basics you’re after or refining your work and gaining more advanced techniques, Melissa meets you where you are with patience and expertise. Her knowledge, talent and generosity, when combined with a willingness to go above and beyond to support and encourage her students, make her a one of a kind artist, teacher, and human being.

I have been taking classes on and off with Melissa for the past 3 years. She is extremely knowledgeable. She has created a beautiful, bright open space for all her students to focus and learn in. Melissa is a very reflective teacher. She shares her knowledge, and takes time and effort to create a warm and positive environment that is extremely well equipped. I am looking forward to getting back to her studio soon and continue my studies. Highly recommended to those who are serious about learning from a skilled, talented and devoted teacher.

Melissa is the best art teacher I've ever had! I've been drawing portraits on my own for years but felt like I was hitting a wall with my skill set so I decided to take a class. Within a few months of starting Melissa's class I had improved more than the last few years on my own (seriously). She teaches lots of great tricks and skills for improving your art, whether you're a beginner or not, and is so friendly!
