I've been taking classes here for many years, including acrylic painting, comic book courses (twice), ceramics (many times), jewelry making, and watercolor animal drawing. Every course I’ve taken has been excellent. I was genuinely surprised to see so many negative reviews. While I haven’t taken those specific classes, the ones I attended were well organized, inspiring, and taught by skilled instructors. I’m writing this review because I believe many people who have positive experiences don’t always think to leave a review, and I wanted to share my own long-term, positive experience.
Maybe some classes are good, but it says very little about a school that it continues to hire the "teacher" who conducted the class my granddaughter attended. It's hard to believe the school calls this an art class. There is no instruction, there are no projects, no interesting materials beyond what you can find in the dollar store, nothing. Her daycare had more interesting projects on a daily basis. This was basically free drawing for two hours with no input or direction or theme. My granddaughter loves art and was very disappointed. Her friend quit for the same reason -- there was nothing to do. The school did not respond to feedback and charged 10% for cancelling, even though the class was not as described. The helper who greeted us before the teacher arrived seemed to be walking in her sleep, and did not smile or say anything, just sullenly showed my granddaughter to her seat -- I've never seen anything like that. Save your money.
Federico is a great teacher! Really enjoyed Watercolours I and am enjoying Watercolours and Gouache right now.
If you're debating whether to register for classes here, do it! After attending other art classes elsewhere, I decided to bite the bullet and try The Visual Arts Center (which was a bit more expensive). I have now taken classes with two different teachers, loved them both and am registered for a third (three semesters in a row). The teachers are fantastic, the curriculum is strong, and the class sizes enable personalized guidance. I've developed confidence in my work and a joy in creating. 10/10 have recommended to many friends!
I had painted in oil on my own for years, learning by trial and error, but when I decided to try my hand at watercolour, I felt some direction would be beneficial and I signed up for my first class at the Visual Art Centre. Was I pleased with my decision? So much so that I ended up taking additional classes for a half dozen years and was never disappointed. Not only were my teachers talented artists themselves, they also had the ability of transferring their knowledge and techniques to their students. A wonderful atmosphere to develop creatively with other talented peers while having fun. Highly recommended.
