First time grooming by Dog FX for my male Portuguese water dog x Poodle, needing just a wash and tidy. Had advised them that he really doesn't like the blow dryer, and to be patient with him. Took a little longer than normal (my fault for getting there late) but he seemed great on pick up, and they said he went well considering his previous experiences. Very happy with his groom. Now fast asleep in his bed under my desk. Recommended

Context: I have a Groodle. A big boy. Okay, if anyone has heard that meme “this what I wanted okay, the pastels… and this is what I got” then you have a preface of what I’m about to say I read the reviews thoroughly beforehand and noticed the negative ones typically centred on staff overcharging for “matting”, slyly sneaking in that extra $15/$20 for ‘extra time’ and ‘extra staff’. Not to mention a few grooming injuries here and there. There were so much positive content on their page, I really wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt. They were a stones throw away from my house, the daycare was open at really convenient hours and the staff I spoke to at booking were LOVELY. Still, I was cautious Another thing I noticed in the reviews was that the owner often disputed customers’ complaints. Dodgy job? Denied. Injury? Denied. Unexpected cut? Also denied. So naturally I was cautious — I voice recorded my consult from the moment I walked in to the moment I left Here is how the consult went: I explained I didn’t want his body short, I liked him fluffy and curly. She asked me to pick out a length from a range she had on the front desk- I picked the longest. The groomer checked him over — face, back, stomach — and told me it was achievable because he wasn’t matted. Before I arrived, I had meticulously brushed him. Checked for matts myself. We were in the clear I told her his face was the only section I’d be okay with at a shorter length. I was persistent, I said that if there was matting and he needed to be shaved, I wouldn’t mind if they contacted me. Again, expressed, I don’t want him short short short. She enthusiastically agreed. Great. I left. I felt confident I’d made the right choice If only I had a Time Machine. When I returned later in the morning. I practically hurtled through the door, so excited to see my scrummy looking dog. I saw all the dogs barking, wandering behind the desk. No sign of mine. I looked at the staff that came to greet me. “Is he out the back?” I gestured to the dogs. The man smiled, “he’s right here”. He pointed to the dog practically sitting at my feet, eyes wide and sad, chin trembling. Oh no. My reaction was to burst into hysterics, the horror too much to take. All I could do was slam my hand over my mouth and try not to embarrass myself. Skinny, shaven, lanky, Pom Pom tail looking rat. That’s all I can describe him as. He had this huge puffed out forehead, ears that had been trimmed but not cut so they protruded from the side of his head. A puffed out moustache. A huge Pom Pom for a tail. The rest… shaven. He looked hideous. I couldn’t control myself. This poor man was giving me a polite handover and all I could do was giggle under my breath and stare into my dogs eyes… eyes that I never knew were so big. Where were his eyebrows? “He was severely matted, so we have to charge you an extra $20 as he took us longer today”. I looked up at the guy. Those familiar reviews ringed in my head. I could only nod. But there was confusion- handover this morning, there were no matts to be seen. Now suddenly, he’s so matted you had to shave his entire body? I was still so horrified, I couldn’t argue. He handed me the dog’s lead and I limply took it. The whole thing cost me $200 and this is what I get… a cheap looking show dog with a pom pom tail. Nevermind this isn’t what I asked for… this is a crime against Groodle’s everywhere. That stretch to the car felt like a walk of shame. My mum was in the passenger seat howling, I’ve never seen her laugh so hard in her life. My partner cried with laughter when I brought him home. I managed to shave out the puffs in his face and the huge, permed ears. The tail was beyond saving. I’ve listened to the recording several times: maybe I should have been firmer? But really, I think I shouldn’t have been so naive. Staff: 9/10 (points deducted for what felt like purposeful overcharging and for dishonouring a lengthy handover) Cut: 0 (if you have a medium to extra large dog, RUN) Cost: cheaper and better elsewhere, I’ve learnt my lesson

So happy we found this business to look after our labradoodle Leo. Leo definitely has a quirky personality but that’s not an issue here. So grateful and appreciative .
