What’s good? Fajita, chips, sopapilla, Patron skinny margarita… live music, great service for big parties. The actual structure is a little run down but the food was really good.
We ordered the steak ranchero that came with cheese and chile, calabacitas, and papitas. Our waitress never told us that they were out of the calabacitas and the substitute was beans and the steak does not come with cheese either. The beans looked dry. The steak was good but that’s all that was good. I asked the waitress about the cheese and the Calabacitas and she got snarky with a little bit of an attitude and said, oh yeah, I know We are out of calabacitas that’s why you have beans and that meal does not come with cheese. I told her it wasn’t a big deal I just wanted to know why it came different than what I read on the menu but she still had a bit of an attitude. She’s lucky that I have a heart and still gave her a decent tip. But I will never come here again due to it being our first experience here that was not so great!
Came for lunch on a Sunday with my sister and nephew. No wait. We had a relatively new server, Sean, and he was excellent. Even with a large party he was still attentive to our table. The chips and salsa are bomb. Chips are made in house. Thin, warm, the right amount of salt. Food came out fast and to perfection. Guacamole is delicious. Add serano cream sauce to anything and it's magical. Lol There is also have a great a great happy hour.
I thought there would be a happy hour going on at El Patron. We went to the bar around 5:00 and there was nothing other than $5 fireball shots. We sat at a bistro table and were offered menus and water. We ordered off the senior menu. I ordered 2 tacos, smashed beans, and rice. My wife ordered 3 taqiitos with whole beans and rice. My tacos were ground beef, but the flavor was overwhelmingly textured vegetable protein, served in premade taco shells with a sprinkle of lettuce and even less tomato. I ordered 2 tacos and couldn't force myself to finish the last one. My wife tried one taquito and left the other 2 on the plate. The serve brought 2 sopapillas. Cold and hard as cardboard. I poured some of the high fructose corn syrup, sugar, with a touch of honey into the stiff cold sopapilla and tried to eat it. The restaurant is a sham, the service and environment are nice, but the food is the worst New Mexican food I've ever eaten.
After not having been in town for awhile, I needed a good margarita and green chile fix (and some red for Christmas)! This was the perfect spot and I forgot how good it was. The sopapillas were perfect, red chile ribs were hot and delicious. And then the burritos were as equally good!
