I've had Glenn work on several furniture repair and restoration projects. Several of the pieces were 80-100 years old. Quite simply, his expertise, care, and quality of work are unmatched.
Glenn's workmanship was incredible. He restored the wood finish on our heirloom Adirondack chair and reupholstered it. It looks amazing. He was incredibly responsive when I inquired on the status of the project. He took extreme care with our chair and the project. I highly recommend Glenn's Custom Finishing.
Glenn did an excellent job in refinishing my dining room table, chairs, hutch and server. It took a little longer than we had originally planned for but was worth the wait
Glenn picked up my furniture on Nov 18, 2024 and after months of checking on the progress of my cherry dining room table, 6 chairs, sideboard and vintage blond cedar chest and Hitchcock Windsor-backed chair, I was aghast at what I found. My furniture was piled high collecting dust in his “workshop” along with others’ furniture. Table tops and leaves stacked against the wall, chairs piled on top of each other, my sideboard and cedar chest literally standing on their sides. The utter lack of care and concern for the furniture with which he was entrusted is disgusting. My furniture was supposed to have been ready in April. In early May, he wasn’t finished so we agreed to May 16 for delivery. On May 14, he said he was behind because his helper had been out sick. We agreed to 5/24 at 4pm for delivery. At 4:15pm on the 24th, I texted Glenn to ask when I should expect him. I received a call from him very confused that he was supposed to deliver that day. Feeling extremely concerned, I texted him and insisted on seeing photos of my furniture (which I had requested previously but not received). He did not respond. On Sunday 5/25, I went to his shop. To my horror, I discovered the piles of carelessly stacked furniture covered in dust and dirt. NONE OF MY FURNITURE WAS EVEN IN PROGRESS. Glenn promised that all would be finished and delivered on the following Saturday, which I thought was fast. Instead of delivering that Saturday, he started the work Monday and delivered the “finished” pieces that Wednesday and Thursday. Speed in furniture refinishing is NOT your friend, especially when working with solid wood furniture that’s been sitting in a hot, humid storage unit for 6 months. The table top, leaves and sides of my sideboard appear to have been sandblasted but not finish sanded, leaving a rough surface upon which stain was applied. All of the cherry furniture pieces have a patchy white film on them. When pressed as to what the film is, not only did he accuse me of doing something to my own furniture, but he nor his helper had a clue as to what that could be. With a Google search, I have found what appear to be answers. I have also confirmed the issues with two other furniture restoration companies. The furniture was not properly prepared or finish sanded prior to being stained. The wood was not given sufficient time to dry and the work was done in a hot and humid environment which prevents the stain from properly adhering. Further, after being in a hot, cramped storage space for months and bringing the furniture back to an air conditioned house, the surface of the wood is adjusting and as a result, the white film is becoming even more evident. I discovered that 2 of the feet on my sideboard were missing and a bent nail was sticking out of the bottom of the back left leg, leaving a deep gouge in my new hardwood floor. In addition, he did an utterly poor job fixing the bottom corners of the frame. Not only was the color stripped to almost blond on one side, but the filler he used is nearly black and the gap is about 1/8” wide. Glenn insisted that my beautiful 1950s blond cedar chest, which needed to simply be sanded and restained, had to have been painted white at some point. It was never painted; it was original. I very reluctantly agreed to white paint, which was clearly haphazardly applied without the chest even being sanded, given the deep grooves in the paint. The bottom line: my furniture was returned in far worse shape than it was in after the flood. I paid Glenn to FIX the furniture. Instead he damaged it more. Glenn took zero responsibility for the poor workmanship or extraordinarily long delay. His lack of willingness to even acknowledge the issues is beyond disappointing. I not only cannot recommend Glenn Custom Finishing, I would recommend that if he has your furniture, you check on it pronto.
Glenn’s Custom Finishing did an excellent job on refinishing my dining room table, 8 chairs and china cabinet. It looks brand new! I highly recommend them to anyone in need of his services.
