Holidaying in Waikiki over Christmas, we still wanted to have a traditional xmas lunch at our hotel. Hy's "take out" Christmas Feast was perfect for us. Perfectly cooked beef rib, ham, and all the sides. Really tasty, and a hit with the extended family!
So when I walked in the atmosphere took me back to some of the finest restaurants that I have visited in the past. From the wood work to the staff dressed to the nines and ready to serve. Waiter was very knowledgeable about the wine and food. Even though we are not really drinkers he was passionate able the information he was delivering. We ordered French onion soup ( the waiter offered to split the order into two separate servings) {so we could share and not have to pass the bowl} it was wonderful deep rich flavor and melted cheese was delicious also. Hear from the person that recommended the restaurant they had Beef Wellington so..... That was definitely what I was ordering, unfortunately the dish fell flat... This particular one was tough... For the filet to be litterly difficult to cut with the steak knife puzzling... The pastry was good and the meat cooked perfectly (as you should know med-rare). But the flavor was not there. Me wife got the crab cake that was on the appetizer menu as an entree, she does this often since she doesn't eat much. She loved it. I did too. Something else they had was a Crab 🦀 Mac & cheese, this was awesome, crab cheese, truffle this is a must have if you stop in. Baked potato had its own condiments tray to load it up with the good stuff. When it was finished it typical fashion in high end restaurants.... Table side service.... So we had they make us bananas Foster, well what can I say it was incredible to watch him do his work and it came out incredible.

Very good food, really good service, price is probably $10-15 over per person based on all things considered. We'd surely still come back for specials and would love to try Happy Hour or the Breakfast. I did see a few people wearing shorts, which seemed weird due to dress code and it made the restaurant seem less formal. There were salt and pepper shakers on the table, at this price point I did not expect to see that being that most high-end restaurants season the food as it should be. The tableside salad was very nice to see and tasted very fresh. The macaroni and cheese with crab tasted okay, but the crab seemed like an afterthought opposed to being integrated into the dish. The Beef Wellington was AMAZING! 🤌 The tableside drink tasted very good and the smoke created a really cool experience and reminded us of a campfire. The restaurant did an perfect job catering to our children 👏 😍 thank you!
We dined here on Sunday, 12/14 for our family Christmas dinner. Originally the main dining room was sold out, so we had to choose the bar area for seating, but the hostess was kind enough to sit us at a table in the dining room, given a 2 hour limit. We really appreciated this. Everything from the ambience, to service, to food was amazing. My husband and I both work in fine dining and this experience exceeded expectations. Dayle and Desmond (I hope I remembered the names and spelling correctly) were a great team. We never wanted for anything, and this was probably the best service we have ever had at a restaurant. We have had a couple bad experiences at Hy’s in the past, so we were hesitant to give it a try again, but this experience solidified it as one of our top dining choices. Worth the price, as this is now a cherished family memory.
