My wife and I went back to Ichi Umi Sushi, formerly known as Haru, while visiting family during the holidays and unfortunately it was a disappointing experience. When this place was Haru it was hands down our favorite sushi spot in Austin. We craved it constantly and talked about it even after moving to California. The rolls were always flavorful well balanced and memorable which made this return visit something we were genuinely excited about. Right away the menu felt overwhelming. It used to be simple and now it is extremely long and difficult to navigate. But the bigger issue was the food. We ordered several of our old favorites including the Wildflower, Black Widow, Crush on You, Foxy Lady, and Redwood rolls. The Redwood and Foxy Lady were okay but still not what we remembered. The rolls were noticeably smaller than before and lacked the depth of flavor they once had. The Black Widow, Wildflower, and Crush on You were the biggest letdowns. The sauces and spicy mayo were overpowering and in some bites overly spicy to the point where you could barely taste the fish. The balance that made these rolls special before just was not there. The Wildflower in particular used to be incredible with its mix of mango tuna salmon soybean paper and orange miso sauce. This time it completely fell flat. The Crush on You was inconsistent from bite to bite with either no goat cheese or too much of it dominating the roll. I am not sure if ownership changed or if something else happened but this no longer feels like the Haru we loved. That was honestly the hardest part. This place held a lot of great memories for us and it was disappointing to see such a drop in quality. I hope they can find their way back to what made this spot special because it truly used to be one of the best sushi spots in Austin. Unfortunately this visit just missed the mark for us.
Really impressed with the nigiri and the speciality rolls! We have been in Austin for 6 years and haven’t found a solid value sushi spot… it’s always been lucky robot or even more upscale but haven’t had much luck in the moderate priced sushi restaurants. Not only was it well priced it was super high quality nigiri and sashimi. Service was great! We will be back!
Came here because I wanted chicken Katsu & the amount of good reviews this place had. Was disappointed that they said they didn’t offer happy hour because it was New Year’s Eve. We ate there anyway. I hit the chicken katsu, my son got the chicken udon noodles & we got a fried sushi roll that was $16.00. When we saw the size of the fried sushi, we thought it was a type of sushi that you put in a bento box. It was So SMALL. Six pieces that were as wide as a woman’s thumb. It was not good at all. The chicken in the Udon noodle dish was dry and flavorless. I did like my chicken katsu. The waitress was nice. Overall, I would NOT recommend this place but I would highly recommend Sushi Zoa in Hutto,Tx.
Very quaint and peaceful restaurant. The booth was comfortable and the server was polite and attentive. We came for a late lunch so they were not busy, but everything we ordered was fresh and delicious. The bento box and ramen were well made. The sushi was top notch we had the Yummy and Mango rolls. We devoured everything. Definitely a great place for sushi when visiting Austin.
Great seafood place in Texas! Never thought I would get decent sushi place while visiting in Texas, but yes I really liked the Mero seabass here. Sashimi sampler is also great for its price! Food did take a bit to comeout but i guess they were cooking it from scratch. Would come here again!
