I knew nothing about this subculture before going and had such a blast! Very beginner friendly- all the games I played had tutorials and were in English and the staff was very helpful and welcoming.
I had an absolute blast at Ikigai, staff was very friendly, helpful and answered all of my questions! I was able to play Kancolle Arcade and was helped by another player, they were also very nice! I can't wait to visit when I come into town again!
Ikigai Arcade is an absolute gem. I was visiting from out of town and the staff were incredibly welcoming! It’s affordable and the games all felt great. In fact, they were some of the best I have played on. Sound Voltex in particular was the best feeling 60hz cab I have played. The community is lucky to have such a place with owners who care!
Not just a local rhythm game landmark - Ikigai is at the forefront of bringing rare cabinets to the states. Cab maintenance is sublime here, and the owners rule. Lots of hard-to-find cabs -or outright impossible-to-find cabs outside of Japan, including both the newest cabs and some discontinued ones. Community is also really friendly and I was finally able to get into rhythm games thanks to this place.
At long last, Pittsburgh has its very own rhythm arcade! I can’t compare to any game centers in Japan, but I’ve been to a number of arcades across the US, both small/privately owned and big chains. Ikigai Arcade is hands down the nicest I have ever visited. There is more for rhythm & fighting game fans than any other American arcade I’ve been to; the owners know their audience and don’t waste space with random stuff aimed to satisfy your average Dave & Buster’s visitor 😛 the cabs (including but not limited to: Ongeki, maimai finale and dx, chunithm, sound voltex, wacca, pop’n music, groove coaster, beatmania iidx, pump it up, nostalgia) are very well maintained. I was also impressed with their selection of imported Japanese merch (figurines, apparel, cute accessories) and mythical sports drink Pocari Sweat. The arcade is quite easy to navigate and does a good job of creating pockets with lower noise where you can rest or even hold a conversation—if you are a regular arcade goer, you know how big of a deal this is! Null & Taka are very approachable, friendly, helpful, and responsive to customers in person and via Discord. I expect to lose a lot of my disposable income to this place in the future.
