We had a great experience at Independent Goldsmith. I was left a wedding ring from my Nana, as well as some gold coins in her will. My fiance is sentimental and very family-oriented, and we had the idea to melt down a coin to make his wedding band so that we could both have a piece of family history in our rings. I took this idea to a different jeweler I had gone to for repairs in the past. Their quote was very expensive; the same cost as a ready-made band, and the idea was I could pay for that ring with some of the gold coin. However, at Independent Goldsmith, Linda was looking out for our best interests. The cost of the labour to build the ring was under $400 (about 4/5th cheaper than the other place). She told us NOT to pay for the ring with part of the coin, since it was 22k and they only buy at a scrap gold rate, which would be way undervaluing the coin. She also made the suggestion to sell our coin and buy a ring, which would have been overall cheaper when considering the coin value (but not as valuable sentimentally). This impressed me that she was thinking of affordable options for us. Besides being competent and helpful, Linda is also very friendly, positive and a good communicator. We started the process by choosing the band shape and size. They printed out a 3D wax model for my fiance to try on, which was a little snug. For the second wax model we upped the size, and matched the thickness to his engagement ring, which had been originally out for replating so we had to wait til we had it back. He tried on the second wax model with his e-ring and it felt great together. They mixed my 22k coin with alloys and made him a 14 k gold band. I picked up the wedding band and when I got home I noticed a little rough spot on the edge. I took it back the next day and waited 10 minutes while they buffed it out on the spot. Now it's perfect. We would definitely work with this company again!

We worked with Linda to create a custom engagement ring. She was so patient, attentive and easy to work with. We communicated regularly through email and Linda was always very prompt with the responses. I was quite nervous about ring shopping but she made the experience very enjoyable. I wasn’t sure what I wanted and she was super helpful and provided very valuable input. She drafted multiple designs and provided wax models of the ones I liked so that I could try them on which I appreciated. She was also very considerate and flexible to work around any timelines/dates. I had the best experience getting my custom engagement ring from here and I will definitely return to get any future items. I have recommended it to my friends and family members as well! ☺️

Absolutely amazing! Blown away by their work, professionalism and wonderful attitude. The staff here are always happy and courteous and eager to help. Linda was beyond patient and encouraging with my requests. They delivered reasonable and accurate timelines for completion and went above and beyond what i hoped to achieve. I cannot find the words to accurately say how happy we are and how amazing this place is!

This was my first time working with Linda and her family to re-design an heirloom ring, and I was so pleased with the results and experience from start to finish! Linda and her family are so kind, transparent and passionate about their business. I’m thrilled with my new ring and can’t wait to return to work on a few other heirloom pieces. We had such a wonderful experience working with the folks at Independent! Linda took the time to offer her expertise and opinion and work with us to come up with something that I love. I initially didn’t know what exact style I wanted, but they were so patient and helpful. They created multiple versions of the ring with wax models to make sure I was happy with it. Thank you for creating such a meaningful piece for us.
