I was a swimmer as a kid (YMCA) high school and then swam in college. I am 70 now and had been out of any organized swimming for over 40 years. I decided to re enter swimming for good health and remembering how fun and good company other swimmers were. I had heard wonderful word of mouth reports about Jim’s Master program and restarted September 2024. I could not be happier, I feel better and the other members are great. All levels of ability are welcome and made to feel welcomed.
After more than 50 years away from swimming I joined JMMS to get back in shape. So glad I did!! I was met with a great group of people who enjoy each other’s company, who have all different skill levels and objectives and who have found a great leader/instructor/coach in Jim Montgomery. Maybe only 10% ever compete. Everyone else swims at their own level and enjoy a great workout. Hope to see YOU soon. I promise: it’s a fun workout with great people.
We love JMSS and have been with them since November 2023! Honorable mentions to my daughter’s favorite instructors since then: Coach Maria and Coach Bagel (as she said, “he’s the silliest.”). The office staff are also amazing and always go the extra mile. A special shout out to Miss Anna who helped us miraculously recover a lost earring FROM. THE. POOL. within an hour or two of me realizing and leaving a voicemail. We always feel loved and taken care of at JMSS. As a ex-swim instructor in my past life, I also appreciate how their curriculum involves the swimmer and instructor without all the extra fru fru that I’ve seen at other swim schools (flippers and such). My daughter is really motivated by the ribbons and I personally enjoy the app to check her progress on skills. The only minor area of improvement I could suggest would be more verbal communication between coaches and parents about how our kids are doing or more frequent updates on the app (ex. Learning, practicing, mastered). More communication is something I’m sure lots of parents would like but I understand it’s not always feasible with the turnaround time between classes. From my observations, they do a great job working with parents who have kiddos struggling with water comfort and creating a plan to help those kiddos specifically!
My daughter started here when she was 3, my son started when he was 2. They are now 7 & 4 and can swim like the dickens!! My husband swam throughout high school & college and he has been so pleased and impressed with the way the instructors teach the fundamentals of swimming AND water safety. This is not a place where high schoolers go for an easy summer job; these instructors are well trained and held to a high standard for how they teach and interact with the kids. One thing I have been especially impressed with is how seriously they take feedback from parents. When my son was struggling with feeling safe in the water, they not only listened to what I had to say, but took detailed notes, shared them with his swim coach, and had a face-to-face conversation about it before his next lesson. The facility looks new and is kept clean and well maintained. The front desk staff are kind, helpful, and so patient! The owner, Jim Montgomery, is frequently seen strolling the facility, observing students in their lessons, chatting with parents, and is always ready with a smile and a kind word. Since he is an Olympic gold medalist, he brought his medals up to the school and allowed the kids to see them and take pictures with them when the Olympics came around! I have never had a major complaint during our years here, and the few minor ones I’ve had have been met with a willingness to listen and work together to ensure everyone has a positive, productive experience. I really can’t say enough about how wonderful and impressive this swim school is. Worth every penny!!
We've been coming here since my daughter was 10 months old and it's amazing the progress she has made. Coach Connor is excellent with the little kids and we look forward to "swimming with friends" each week. Her first class she screamed her head off when her face got wet and now 3 months later she loves to JUMP into the water and kick and splash around our pool at home and during class. I also feel like we are headed in the right direction on water safety with the things we learn every week, which feels great. Clean facilities and nice people!
