I tried L'Antica in LA and decided to check out the branch in Long Beach! I like the location and the atmosphere of the restaurant, as well as the food — it was great. Honestly, we ordered two pizzas, two salads, and two appetizers. I dined with a larger group, about 9 people, and this was my first time at this branch. I don’t remember the servers in the LA branch being rude, so I was quite surprised to encounter a server here who was rude and quite condescending. I don’t recall her name, but she was a young female with a heavy Italian accent and had her hair in a ponytail (if that is identifiable). I understand cultural differences in personality, but for someone working in the food industry, and for a restaurant as highly reviewed as L'Antica, she does not deserve to be working in your branch. She was rude — when you would ask about the menu, she would try to "downsize?" your orders and mention maybe not get that because it is quite filling and there is more food coming. We all ordered drinks as well, but she seemed frustrated when taking drink orders. It was surprising to see such behavior from a server whose job is to take orders and provide good service. She was not very friendly and you can tell at first glance she isn't. At first, I paid it no mind, but when we asked for extras, I noticed her rolling her eyes, giving exasperated sighs, and generally being judgmental. I was looking around and checking if the other servers had that same attitude, but it seemed it was only her as the others seemed friendlier. I do like L'Antica — it’s great — but she definitely soured the experience. I thought the kitchen staff who take the plates were attentive and friendly, though. I hope you will keep in mind the people you hire and decide to keep, as you run a respectable restaurant. I do enjoy L'Antica in Long Beach, but unfortunately, your one server soured the experience. I had guests from abroad and wanted to show them your restaurant. While the food was great, the server left a negative impression to them whenever we bring up L'Antica, and it’s what they would remember most.
Getting seated by the hostess was a bit too slow given it was a slow afternoon, but that's fine. The waiter and the food made up for it. The pizza was as authentic as it can get for the US. Their Moscato is actually sweet and the taste I expect from Italy; which I have a hard time finding in California. The pasta and appetizers were good as well. Don't forget to ask for extra pecorino to complete the experience!
I loved the Zucchini flower appetizer, it was a great starter. The Pizza is Napoli Style and very well prepared. The fish was great as well. The Cocktails are strong and very good. The restaurant is elegantly designed. One of Long Beach's best Italian restaurants. I liked it so much that I visited their Mother Company in Napoli this summer.
Came for a pizza making class to celebrate a birthday. It was a great experience, Danny and Carlos were amazing and helpful. Very knowledgeable about the history of L’antica and pizza. After our pizza was done, we got to enjoy the delicious pizza we learned to make from scratch. Anthony the manager was also friendly, attentive, and made sure everything was perfect. Highly recommend!
The Food: The food was okay. We were trying to find a place that reminded us of Italy. We’ve kept an open mind tho. The one thing that got us to come here was that their menu has some truffle options. In Italy, we tried this restaurant that was known for truffle and everything there was so good. The pizzas here cost between $25 and $30, but the truffle pizza was $65. The seasoned fries are $10 and the truffle fries are $25. The truffle on the truffle fries looked fried and minced… it was not worth the extra $10 nor the double price of the pizza in my option. I also think the pizza needs to be more crispy on the bottom. Again, we are comparing to half a dozen pizza places we’ve tried in Italy in various cities. The drinks we got were stiff but the blending of the flavors need work. What we ordered: - Zucchini Flowers $22 - Arancini $20 - Spaghetti Cacio & Pepe $28 - Tagliatelle Pesto $27 - Truffle Porcini Pizza $65 - Truffle Fries $25 The Service: The service was good. Our server checked in on us a good amount of times. The Atmosphere: The restaurant has a nice ambience. We went for an early dinner so it wasn’t too crowded. But I would imagine on a Saturday night, it would be more lively. They do have areas for a larger group. Overall: It was a decent place to go to. Based on what we ordered, we probably wouldn’t go back for the food. I would not recommend the truffle options. They have a decent wine list if you’re into that. Parking: There’s public paid parking behind the restaurant. There is also a public paid parking on the street. It’s free after 7 PM I believe. And then you could park near the neighborhood for free. I would read those signs though to make sure. Total Cost: $266.30 +tip Follow and Subscribe for more food and travel content! YT @RoseAndWorld7 IG @RoseAndWorld7y
