Been going to Lloyd for a while now. This is a great gym overall for a wide variety of things. All kinds of people doing everything from pole dancing, cardio classes, handball, weights and more. The gym has a very Portland vibe; not extroverted but certainly not mean. The employees range anywhere from knowing you by name and smiling at you, to trying their best not to acknowledge you if you walk by. I have had a number of experiences where employees were actually rude, but they are few and far between. Mostly the vibe from employees is neutral and just a small part of your time in the gym anyways. The phone service in this area isn’t great and the wifi at the gym is not reliable, so download your playlist. My music often won’t load. Over last fall and this winter they have done tons of upgrades to the space which have really improved the experience. Overall I love Lloyd and would recommend, especially if you want to stay away from intimidating corporate gyms & support local.
I've been going to Lloyd Athletic Club for several months and love it! I hate the pounding music at most gyms, and I really appreciate that it's calm and quiet. It's also clean and has great amenities (sauna, steam room, hot tub, towel service, classes), and Bill at the front desk is the best – always super friendly and helpful. Thanks, Bill! :) Highly recommend Lloyd!
This place is the best. I never liked gyms before I found LAC! It's clean and spacious, there are so many fun classes & activities, all the machines & equipment you could need, and I love the sauna + hot tub + steam room. And the staff is GOLD. Everyone is so kind, and they create such a welcoming, down to earth, supportive environment. Recently I made a mistake with my locker rental, and Khiro helped me get it sorted out with total ease, and he was super understanding, patient and gracious. I'm so grateful for this place, it's legit one of my favorite things about living in Portland.
I love this gym! It's clean, well laid out (especially since they did the update and reorganization of the upstairs area), and has such a friendly vibe. All the employees I've interacted with are really helpful and nice, and it's clear that they care about making LAC a pleasant place to spend time. This is a pretty active spot for racquetball, squash, and handball, so if you're into those sports or want to be, I couldn't recommend LAC highly enough. 5 stars for sure!
I absolutely love this place. Have been a member for 3-4 years and use the weight room, exercise machines, squash courts, locker room hot tub, sauna and steam room and love socializing with broader membership in the spacious lobby, where beers, ciders and other libations and snacks are available opening till closing. Want to give the owner Nick specific props for supporting the Portland City Squash League weekly matches, which hopefully introduces other non-members to the club. The membership rates are the best in town in my opinion, with pause options if you’re hurt or out of town for extended periods and I think refund options if you move away. Thanks Nick and staff, love you!
