A martial arts school that combines traditional movements and full contact applications, this school has taught me all I know about fighting. The exercise provided in each class is grueling and long in a way that has developed me physically and mentally. The contact applications have allowed me a better understanding of how to alter certain movements to fit each situation. If you go here it will be difficult. Graduating ranks is slow, and classes are difficult, and the growth will be genuine. Go here to gain a proper understanding of the mechanics to fight.
I have been going to Mandarin Kung Fu for over 4 years. It is the most traditional martial arts training in the western NY region. The workouts are extremely tough but when you see the results you know why. 99% of the classes are conducted by Sifu Norman Mandarino. When he is not available it is always a black belt teaching the class. Not like some of the other places where inexperienced people run the classes. Joining this kung fu school was the best move of my life. And the friendliness and comaraderie of all the students makes it all the better. Dont settle for the big mills where they give out belts for showing up. At Mandarin, you earn them.
I've been training at Mandarin Kung Fu for over four years now. I've been to several other schools over the years but stayed here because the training is real. You can feel confident that you will be able to defend yourself. Self defense is just the tip of the iceberg with Kung Fu. You will learn more than you can ever imagine. Amazing school. One big family. They teach hard work here and this is not a school that sells "fake" belts that cost hundreds of dollars to receive a participation award. Lets face it, no 9 year old should be a black belt in any martial art and if any scool tells you different, they are just trying to take as much money from you as possible to make your chile feel better about him/her self. All in all, its been amazing experience for my 9 year old. He has learned self defense and the importance of hard work to achieve goals in life. Sifu Mandarino is one of the most nice and caring instructers that i have met. His goal is to teach the art, not try to milk you for every dime like some schools do. Plus, you will get an incredible cardio workout while having fun with staffs, swords, and other traditional weapons. I implore anyone interested to visit with sifu Mandarino he is NOT pushy and not a salesman. Highly recommended!
I joined Mandarin Kung Fu for exercise and to gain a valuable defensive skill. This is exactly what I got and then some. Fellow students are very respectful and they treat you like family. Be prepared to up your game. Warning: This is NOT a belt shop and you will need to EARN what is merited.
