After making a series of ugly videos and browsing forums and product review sites for guidance, I jumped in the car and drove 90 minutes to Mike's Camera to get advice and gear from true experts. Armed with enough knowledge only to waste cash and continue making terrible mistakes, I waltzed into the store ready to impulsively throw money at my problem. Fortunately, I got a super helpful reality check from Kyle who moved me away from gear that someone at my level just isn't ready to use and over to the equipment that would really make a meaningful impact. He gave me some much-needed tips for lighting and audio recording, and I left only with an awesome lighting bundle and the enthusiasm to focus on developing my skills and knowledge--not acquiring more gear. I had such a great experience at Mike's Camera (the other employees were so kind and patient, too). I will definitely go back when the time is right. Thank you, Kyle, and everyone at Mike's Camera.

I had passport photos done for an infant. The folks here are very accommodating and nice. Went above and beyond. 10/10. Highly recommended.

I don’t like leaving negative reviews for local shops but I had a pretty frustrating experience here. I have a Leica R3 that isn’t working. I called many bay area camera shops to see if they could repair it. Mike’s was the only one who said yes - they could send it out to a repair shop that handles this camera model. So, in October I dropped it off for repair and was told I’d likely get it back in a few months. I paid $35 and would pay for the repairs upon its return. Five months later, after I reached out twice for updates, they finally got back to me saying that the repair shop couldn’t fix it. It’s an old camera. I get that repairs weren’t possible. But during my initial call and when I dropped it off, they led me to believe it would be repaired. Could they have called and confirmed with the repair shop before telling me they could do it, taking my money and sending it off? And then they proceeded to give no updates for 4 months - who knows when I would’ve heard from them if I hadn’t followed up first and twice. And to top it off, they offered no suggestions for where else to try. Net outcome: I’ve spent time and $50 from deposit fees and transiting to and from the camera store, and my camera is still broken. They were polite but I’m disappointed they didn’t set clearer expectations upfront or follow up when timelines were missed.
