I can say without any hyperbole that Moore Than Fitness has changed my life forever. I was neverrrrr a gym girlie, and if you told me 5 years ago that I would be now I would laugh in your face. But Russell has made something really special. Who he is and how he moves through the world has allowed for MTF to blossom into what it is today, and it's truly a gift to be a part of. The team, the community, the care, all off the charts. Yes, it's a gym, but it's also so much more. We're in here getting strong and meeting our goals, but we're also in here having a good time and taking care of one another. And really, what else could you ask for?

I've been training with Russell and the team at Moore Than Fitness for 3 years and counting, and it's been a consistently positive experience. Russell truly listens and is effective at challenging and motivating me along my fitness journey. It's been rewarding to see results in my strength and skills and confidence, but that's only part of what keeps me going back. I learn something new every time I go because Russell takes the time to program a variety of interesting activities and assist my understanding of good form and technique. I'd also highly recommend the semi-private sessions with Kate and August with a focus on conditioning and mobility. All together, the training team creates a welcoming and joyous environment that helps me put forward my best effort each time I go. I've never left Moore Than Fitness bored or in a bad mood!

The Saturday morning community class is the perfect way to start your weekend! My finance and I love taking this class together. We are always greeted with an electric energy! August or Kate walk us through a warmup which leads into a workout that’s a combination of strength training and cardio. The best part of this class is everyone cheering you on! It feels less like a workout and more like a family gathering. If you’re looking for a way to connect with your community and get a solid wokout in, I highly recommend checking this class out. Who knew breaking a sweat could feel so good. Can’t wait to do it again next weekend!

I'm so glad that I found Moore than Fitness! From conversations and check-ins with Russell, to working with my personal trainer Kate, to meeting my fellow gym-goers and the other trainers, every aspect of my experience has been incredibly positive. They've done a beautiful job building a welcoming, authentic, community-focused environment, and I look forward to every session. I was nervous about going to a gym knowing that I need modifications but not knowing where to start. Kate, Russell, and team meet me where I am with genuine kindness and support while providing the holistic guidance I need to make progress and build strength. I'm so grateful for them and the incredible vision they've brought to life through MTF. We are all lucky to have them here in Richmond, and I'm so happy to be working with them!

At first glance, this gym appears to be doing a lot of things right. The messaging around inclusivity is welcoming, and on the surface it feels like a space that wants people of all backgrounds and abilities to feel comfortable and supported. I genuinely appreciated the effort that seems to be made to create an inclusive environment, and that’s what initially drew me in. Unfortunately, the more I observed, the more that positive impression unraveled—largely due to the owner. What initially came across as passion quickly began to feel self-absorbed and performative. It became clear that his primary focus wasn’t the well-being or growth of his clients, but rather how much attention he could draw to himself. Social media presence, public praise, and being seen as “the face” of inclusivity seemed to take precedence over actually living those values day to day. More troubling was a growing sense of insincerity and distrust. The owner’s behavior with clients raised serious red flags for me. There were moments that felt dishonest and inconsistent, where words didn’t align with actions, and commitments seemed flexible only when it benefited him. As a client, it’s hard to feel safe or supported in a space when you start questioning the integrity of the person running it. In the end, while the gym markets itself as inclusive and community-driven, my experience was that those values were more about optics than substance. A gym should be a place where clients come first, and unfortunately, this felt more like a platform for personal attention than a trustworthy space centered on its members.
