I love MW climbing! I have had a membership for about two years. The coffee here is great, the bouldering is fun and the gym area is clean and has everything I need. I love attending the yoga classes and all the people (staff and fellow climbers) are always friendly and nice!
Ive been coming here for 2 years with a break in the middle because i lived in another state for a bit. I loved it almost the entire time, although lately the service has been getting horrible. The gym has a calendar on the wall of upocoming events and such, they used to have their setting dates on the calendar as well. Ever since I came back from colorado it has been missing. I asked myself why this happened and it took me until now to figure it out, its because they dont want to be dependent for their poor setting times and ideas. Dont get me wrong I love climbing here and the climbs I feel like are on par with some gyms in Colorado so the setting is fine, more so the frequency and quantity. They used to have it on the calendar that they set every thursday 9-2, nowadays they set some thursdays and then sometimes not they set one wall or over half the gym. Nothing is consistent and its hardly even worth going sometimes. I climb anywhere between v6-8 not only did they skip a week of setting 2 weeks ago, they also set only 1 6-7 and nothing higher on the most recent set. Which just puts me in a boring 2 week rotation with no new climbs. So today which should be setting day (although thats never promised anymore) i come after 2pm to hopefully climb the new set i bring my girlfriend and give her my free once a month guest pass and theyre setting over half the walls. Not only did I waste my time coming in that day I wasted my guest pass and me and my girlfriend were upset over it. We were even there til 4pm and they still werent finished and thats not even the worst part. I ask one of the employees who by the way is super nice everyone there is nice if I could climb one of the walls with NO ropes around it and NOBODY working on it and he said no. Then what do i see, other non employees ( around 4 non employees) climbing on the new walls helping set climbs and other things. Why?? Because gym staff likes them more than everyone else who pays the same amount for a membership. I saw another frequent climber climbing on one of the walls they were setting that had NO employees in the area and someone walked over just to tell him to stop then went back to work on other climbs, the wall seemed to be completely finished. This is insanity not only do they favor climbers who arent even old enough to work there but they also are setting more than half the gym with no warning, blocking off entire sections without even putting effort into setting them ( that seem to be finished), taking significantly longer than they should to set, and also not setting consistently. If you climb here you should expect to 1. not have a weekly set 2. Be considered lesser than some of the climbers there 3. Not be allowed to climb unattended walls that arent roped off. Im genuinely deciding on canceling my membership if only it werent the biggest climbing gym in town and the closest one to where I live.
We had our daughter’s 10th birthday party here and it was great. Planning and communication with the party planner was efficient and prompt. We had a very large area to ourselves with an attached conference room. We brought our own drinks, cupcakes and pizza. We were free to go between the two areas and climb for 2 hours. Very happy with the experience!
I stayed in Nebraska for a few weeks, and got the trial membership for MW Climbing. It was perfect for a temporary stay here, and I also got to visit both locations. I really enjoyed the Omaha location. As a relatively new climber, there were a range of routes, and they tested you in unique ways that I'm not used to in my main gym. I'd say it's more beginner climber friendly, so definitely check this place out if you want to give climbing a try. You won't regret it!
Had a great experience climbing here. So glad Omaha has a bouldering gym of this size and quality. It had only been open for about a week when I initially visited so the coffee bar, fitness center, and training area were still under construction. The rest of the space was really well thought out. Has a good mix of slab, varying overhangs, and even more of a cave area. Lighting was great as well. It felt very clean and welcoming immediately when walking in the door. Since it was my first visit, the staff member that checked me in gave me a quick tour and overview of the space. I’m still climbing at a beginner grade and they had tons of boulder problems in my range so I had plenty of variety in my session. Looked like there were also plenty of problems in the intermediate and advanced range so I think there is something for everyone. Would highly recommend MW Climbing Omaha.
