The classes themselves are good, but customer service has been consistently disappointing.
I was charged total of over $90 in late cancellation/no-show fees that were not clearly disclosed during booking or checkout. Before raising the issue, I carefully reviewed the entire booking flow again and could not find any visible notice of these fees. I also checked the front desk in person and took photos — there was no posted cancellation or no-show policy.
When I questioned the charge, a front-desk staff member insisted the policy was “clearly displayed” and responded in a dismissive manner. The owner happened to be present and immediately approved a full refund, which I appreciated.
I later received an email explaining that the cancellation policy only appears once during initial signup and is not shown again during booking or checkout. There was no acknowledgment that debiting $90 without visible, ongoing disclosure is unreasonable.
This has not been an isolated experience:
Last Saturday, when I called to ask whether a yoga class was happening, I was told, “well, I guess you know more than me.” and had no answer. The class ended up happening and I missed.
On another occasion, when I flagged incorrect class listings on Mindbody, the response was again dismissive rather than helpful. I heard no thank you whatsorever.
Presentation aside, customer-facing roles require professionalism and respectful communication. Unfortunately, that has been lacking. I genuinely appreciate the owner and his intentions, but staff interactions should reflect the same level of professionalism and reasonableness; otherwise, his good work is overshadowed by these experiences.

I don’t usually write reviews, but this place deserves one from the deepest part of my heart.
Ocean Pacific Gym & Wellness has genuinely changed my life. It’s more than a gym — it’s purpose, it’s community, it’s the beating heart of Pacific Beach. Every time I walk through the doors, I feel like I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be. It’s unbelievably clean, the staff is everywhere in the best way possible, nothing goes unnoticed, and the level of care they put into the space is unreal.
And the location… it’s literally on the beach. The epicenter of PB. You feel the ocean, the energy, the vibe of the neighborhood pulsing through everything. You walk in and you just know everything is going to be all right.
Every visit brings something new. I meet someone. I learn something. I gain a friend, a crush, a laugh, a moment I’ll remember. This place attracts thousands of genuinely incredible people — all ages, all backgrounds, all stories — and somehow it makes all of us feel at home.
Inside, outside… the whole gym is a vibe. If you want to lift under the sun with everyone’s shirts off, go for it. If you want to tuck away inside and focus, you can do that too. It’s the coolest place to be, but also the most accepting — no ego, no “cool guy” energy. Just real people who love being there.
The staff at the front desk know every single member by name. They greet you like family. They’re the soul of the place. And the value? Insane. Group classes, outdoor workouts, immaculate equipment, sauna, steam, cold plunge — all of it included. Even if I only have 20 minutes to spare, I’ll drop by for a quick micro-workout, or just sauna and reset. It’s the best hour (or half hour) I can give myself.
I honestly can’t imagine living in Pacific Beach without this gym. It’s become part of my daily rhythm, my social life, my mental health, my joy. If you live anywhere near PB and you’re looking for a place to move, grow, meet people, and feel like you belong… Ocean Pacific Gym & Wellness is that place.

I used to avoid gyms because just thinking about working out around other people gave me anxiety. But ever since joining Ocean Pacific Gym, that feeling has completely disappeared. The atmosphere here is welcoming, totally non-intimidating, and genuinely enjoyable.
I absolutely love the new gym layout, especially all of the booty builder equipment they’ve added downstairs. It’s honestly one of my favorite parts—I get excited to come in and work on building my glutes! The equipment is fantastic, the amenities are top-notch, and the staff is always friendly and supportive.
The transformation this gym has gone through is incredible, and it just keeps getting better. Ocean Pacific Gym has turned something I used to dread into something I look forward to every day. Highly recommended!

OPG is the best gym in SD!
I actually drive further than I should just to go here! I have been a member for a couple years now, and the upgrades and remodels just keep getting better. There’s a brand-new co-ed sauna with ocean views, and my personal favorite—the infrared halotherapy sauna in the women’s locker room.
Ken retrofitted the entire 6000 sqft downstairs area to top of the line Booty/Leg equipment. All Brand new Booty Builder equipment (obsessed with this company) in the new downstairs room.
It's also right on the beach! Can't beat it.

A solid 4.8 rounds up to a five star rating. If you’re visiting the San Diego beaches and looking to keep your workout routine in tact, chances are real good you’ll find what you’re looking for here. I was visiting for the Labor Day weekend (2025) and wanted a place with Concept2 RowErg rowing machines. This place had five, all with PM5 monitors, as well as some SkiErgs. They had two floors, upper floor is partly open air with turf, great for stretching. While I did my fourth five minute session, I noticed craftsmen in the process of installing four ‘ice plunge’ tubs/tanks. That’ll be interesting for those so inclined. I opted for the $35 daily drop-in fee since I’m only here three days. Just slightly cheaper than the $125 weekly membership for visitors which is a great deal. The men’s locker room had good, hot and clean showers with towels. Also sauna rooms which I also used after my workout and stretching. Right in the heart of Pacific Beach. (I don’t go to public gyms too often, but it was amazing to see so many young women parading around, but it seemed a small percentage actually doing any meaningful working out.) Highly recommend this place. Sorry I didn’t take more pics, but I do feel it’s not right to take pics while people are doing their thing.
