This Control Unleashed® class was well organized and very dog-centered, with exercises that helped my dog stay calmer, more focused, and confident in everyday situations. It’s a great fit for pet dogs who struggle with distractions, excitement, or stress on walks or around other dogs and people. Practical, supportive, and immediately useful for real life
Orion Dog Training has been an enriching and transformative part of Marshy’s life. Marshy is our lively 14 month old deaf husky/cattle dog my wife and I adopted 9 months ago. From Nose Work to Agility to Control Unleashed, every class has brought something new, fun, and confidence-building. We’re currently in multiple classes and already signed up for Tricks in January. Whether it’s weekly training or festive events like the Halloween social, Orion Dog Training continues to be a place where Marshy thrives. What makes this space special is Dieuwke van der Velde herself. She leads with softness, kindness, and deep empathy, and it’s easy to see the pure delights dogs bring her. Dieuwke is always rooting for the dogs and she meets each one with genuine curiosity and care, connecting with their individual strengths and helping them grow in ways that are natural and supportive. Watching her work is impressive and engaging. She brings magic to every class. Dieuwke is clearly passionate and deeply committed. Her own dogs are often featured in her Instagram trainings, which we love watching and sometimes even practice ourselves. Her willingness to share her learning process is just one more way she supports the dog training community. The classes at Orion Dog Training are thoughtfully curated. There’s something for every type of dog and guardian. Dieuwke will also bring in other expert trainers like Vicki Huebner for Control Unleashed. Marshy especially loves (and I mean LOVES) going to Orion Dog Training. The moment we pull into the parking lot, she starts whining with excitement and knows something super fun is about to happen. Marshy’s confidence has blossomed, and Dieuwke’s support has played a major role. As a deaf dog, Marshy benefits from agility training tailored to visual cues, and Dieuwke adapts the training with ease and grace. There is always something new, active, and enriching happening at Orion Dog Training. Boredom is simply not an option. We’re grateful to be part of such a vibrant and supportive learning environment. Dieuwke and Orion Dog Training have truly become part of our extended dog family!
Orion dog training school is the best choice our little family has made for our pup! Our little puppy Yorkie did the puppy pre-k class and we learned so much to help with potty training, helping him adjust to scary noises, and other behavior training that has been very helpful. We are currently doing the puppy 1 star class and our puppy looks forward to class every week, and we are constantly learning new things. It’s not only fun but incredibly beneficial. Puppy socials are another must to attend! We were able to safely introduce our puppy to another family puppy in a neutral and fun space. Highly, highly recommend!
I am just finishing my 4th class at Orion. I love this place. Great variety of classes. Deke is such a positive and patient trainer. I have done 2 obedience classes and 2 nose work classes. Only downside is it’s very pricey. But I did a much cheaper training at a big box store and the training space was really cramped and the trainer was literally reading from a manual the entire lesson - maybe it was her first time training. We had to repeat the class at Orion to make any progress. Also Orion was recommend by the trainer at the rescue I foster for - it’s a good sign when a trainer recommends another trainer!
I have been taking my pup to Orion for several months now- from socials, AKC puppy classes 1 and 2, to puppagility, and to now beginner agility. Dieuwke and Leena are incredible trainers. I continue to learn so much from them in each session, and they are also so helpful in answering questions and concerns I have. I am thankful that this facility exists in San Jose, with wonderful and kind trainers who really care about their clients (the pups) and the work that they do. I can tell they love what they do!
