Polk Street Animal Hospital has been a reliable place for us, especially given our little guy’s heart condition. When his symptoms flared up recently, we brought him in for that, along with his annual checkup. Dr. Cote was great; he took the time to listen carefully, answered all of our questions, and gave thoughtful recommendations for both the heart issue and a couple of other concerns we had. The rest of the team was just as helpful and friendly. The front desk staff even assisted us in sending prescriptions to Costco, which helped save a bit on medication costs, something we really appreciated. The overall process felt smooth and well coordinated, which makes a difference when you’re already a bit stressed about your pet. The only challenge isn’t the clinic, it’s our little guy, who gets very anxious and shaky during visits. Given his heart condition, we may look into options like a mild tranquilizer next time to make the experience easier on him. That said, the care and support we’ve received here have been consistently positive, and it’s a place we feel comfortable returning to.

They’re always overcharging but more importantly their front desk staff have become increasingly rude and snarky every time I interact with them. Truly done with this place and looking for a new place to go to. At this point it’s a matter of not being able to trust my pet with these people who clearly don’t want to be at their job.

I recently had to travel last minute with my dog to Brazil, and my primary care vet was not able to accommodate my last minute schedule so I reached out to Polk St Animal Hospital. I honestly can’t believe how smooth this whole experience was. I've done a number of travel certificates in the past, and they always take longer than expected, with me needing to do the research and legwork on my own, or at least verify that the vet is following the right protocol. Instead, it was shockingly easy. They use a service called Alita, and it basically handled everything. I didn’t have to research requirements, double check forms, or figure out what I was missing. They just took care of it. All I had to do was show up with my dog and then pront the paperwork when it was ready. The timing is what really impressed me — we started on Tuesday, and by Saturday I was on a flight to Brazil with everything fully approved. I’m pretty sure that kind of turnaround wasn’t even possible before. The staff was also just great to work with. Super kind, flexible, and they squeezed me in quickly because they understood I was on a tight timeline. What I appreciated even more was that Alita were very upfront with me. Since it was so last-minute, they explained what could happen if things didn’t get approved in time and what my options would be — I knew exactly what my options were. Overall, I’m just really impressed. This could have been a nightmare and instead it was probably the easiest part of my trip. Highly recommend if you’re dealing with international travel paperwork.

It is unacceptable to encounter individuals on the phone line who exhibit rude and unempathetic behavior.

We have been taking our dog to Castro Animal Hospital since we adopted him four years ago. The care is excellent. The vets are patient and kind with our shy boy, they offer options and clear explanations, and the check-in and -out process is easy and simple. Yesterday I called do a last minute appointment due to an infected eye and they squeezed us in later that afternoon. While the Castro location is our normal one, due to proximity to home, the Polk location is equally clean, professional, and friendly.
