I've been taking my cat here for years. I found a vet I really liked and seemed to care about my cats health Dr. Mats Koelemij. However this place has become SO expensive it is no longer reasonable to take my cat here and I will be going elsewhere. I recently took my cat in for a nail trim (was $30 previously) and now they charge $70 to trim your cats nails. I wasn't told cost beforehand and was shocked by this price at check out. The person at the front desk told me there was nothing they could do and they had zero control over the prices (fair enough). So I paid and left. I filled out an online forum saying the price was over double what I was charged last time for a nail trim and never heard back. Save your money. Go somewhere else.
Absolutely ridiculous policy: I had an 11am appointment for my cat. We ran late (more than 10 minutes which is their max allowed late time) because I couldn't put her in her carrier, I called the office on my way there to tell them I'm running late and that I'm one and a half blocks away, and they said they can't take me anymore. So I turned around with a ctlrying cat and I will be charged a no-show fee, too. However, when the vet was 60 minutes late at my last appointment, that was totally fine, I guess. No words....
I’ve been taking my dog to this Vet for the past three years. The veterinarians and technicians are patient, communicate well, and provide excellent care. However, the front desk staff are one of the rudest people. Their communication is subpar; they don’t acknowledge you when you walk in or when you leave the appointment room. We were waiting to pay our bill and for an update on our prescription. They ignored us when we were standing in front of them. Another customer walked in and they immediately looked up and talked over my wife and me. After waiting for their conversation to end, we took a more direct approach and they immediately gave us attitude. I then complained about their communication directly to them and they rolled their eyes and were dismissive. Ayoub and the other person working on 12/23/25 around 3 PM need re-training. I am no longer going to this Vet.
In today's appointment Karen and Dr. Cote were great with my cat and very informative. Unfortunately, it's the third time in a row that the office gives me a bill over email when booking the appointment, and when I am going to pay my bill in person after the visit, the inflate the cost and overcharge me. Last time it was about $230 more, and previously about $70 higher. Today the bill came $100 higher than the price given beforehand, for the same services. When I mention it, the receptionist just said 'anyways' ... front desk customer service is very poor, they don't want to be there and they make it very clear.
I adore and trust Dr. Rosen. Unfortunately, the desk staff, price, and policies make it incredibly difficult to continue going back. I've spent well over 3k this year - some of it just on routine procedures, some of it on expensive xrays. Now they're forcing you to go into the office to pick up a paper prescription rather than fulfilling anything online through other services (such as Chewy). With the amount of money I've given to this place, I'm justified in wanting to save money where I can - it's not right that they're practically forcing their patients to use their system so they can squeeze out more money. It'll be tough to leave Dr. Rosen, but I don't know that I can continue to go to either Polk st or The Castro Animal Hospital.
