Professor Marra, and the entire staff at Six Blades Fort Worth make the gym fantastic. They have a wonderful kids program that is very structured and successful (both in competition and character development). The head coach and top level competitors teach the children’s classes, with a very high level of detail and enthusiasm. The adult classes offer the same for experienced competitors, beginners, and everything in-between (men, women, young, and old). The gym enjoys a wonderful team environment, and is a truly special place. For context, I’ve been training almost 30 years (yikes! I’m old…haha), and have been to dozens of gyms all over the world. I’m a new member this summer, as I recently moved to the area, and I can’t thank everyone enough (students and staff) at the gym for welcoming me.
I have been a student here for nearly 5 years now. I have practiced the art for 16 years, at three different schools, and I can say that Leo is the finest coach I've had. His systematic way of teaching, his patience, and his encouragement make him a model instructor/coach. The atmosphere is welcoming, safe, and collegial. "Lighr vibes, heavy jiu jitsu" is the school's motto, and it lives up to it.
The word that best describes this school is respect. From the instructors to every student, it’s something you feel the moment you walk in. For what’s often considered an individual sport, Leo and Luciana have created an environment where families and individuals train together, challenge themselves, and grow through something that’s both physically demanding and mentally grounding. I came here a few years ago after leaving the military and while attending college full time. What began as an after-school activity for my son quickly became something we both wanted to be part of. Jiu Jitsu has turned into a shared experience — a way for us to connect, grow, and push each other in a positive environment. Over time, this gym has truly become a second home to us. Jiu Jitsu here isn’t just about learning techniques — it’s about becoming better, together. I’ve grown as a person because of this place, and so has my son. It’s hard to explain how meaningful Jiu Jitsu can be, but in a school that values respect and knowledge as deeply as this one, it’s not something you describe — it’s something you feel. I’m grateful every day to be part of this team and community.
I moved from south Florida and my school American Top Team, Coral Springs. My professors reviewed different schools in the Fort Worth area as they knew that, despite this being a hobby, it was going to be difficult for me emotionally to leave and wanted to provide feedback on a school. They all agreed this would be the best fit. I arrived to train the second day I moved to Texas and from my first class to the present, I have been treated like family. Professor Marra’s leadership and knowledge could fill textbooks. His love for the art as well as his gym can be felt through his students and coaches. His family are all active and supportive for anything. Professor Marra’s ability to communicate concepts is clear, concise and effective. The transition to his school has been great and, while I still suck, I definitely feel like my game continues to grow. There are schools that teach BJJ and then there are schools that contribute to furthering its development. This school is the latter, I am grateful to Professor Marra, the coaches Maestre Gabriel Cardoso for my private lessons, and Yan Lucas for the intensity he brings to the sport. I look forward to learning and contributing to Team Marra and Six Blades, Fort Worth.
I recently removed my children from this school, and it was the best decision we ever made. The school lacks structure and organization, and favoritism is rampant. It seems they've lost sight of their core values. The teaching style of Leonel is particularly concerning - he comes across as arrogant, often speaks poorly of students, and doesn't take kindly to those who don't mesh with his approach. He'd rather focus on a select few than support the entire class. It's clear that his priorities lie with financial gain rather than the well-being and goals of his students. If you're considering this school, I'd advise you to explore other options. There are schools that prioritize welcoming and supporting their students, showing up consistently, and fostering a positive environment. It's worth finding a place that aligns with your values and provides a nurturing space for your children to grow.
