The place is peaceful and people are friendly. I’m leaving a4 star review because of a bug their event link has that has been very annoying in my IPhone Calendar IMPOSSIBLE TO BE DELETED! Please address the situation

Great community of practitioners and teachers here at the St Petersburg Shambhala center. I appreciated that they kept the meditations sessions and teaching going virtually during the pandemic. Just what people need.

I enjoyed this place until yesterday when I received an email containing a venemous rant of a political nature urging political action against a particular party. Apparently someone in authority there has the rather arrogant opinion that she should impose her own political opinions on the membership and that we should accept it and do her political bidding. I am not drinking her koolaide. If you want to be politically manipulated, you will like this place. If you seek spiritual wisdom and respect for your own opinions....you will not.

This place and the people who run it are wonderful. They did for me what antidepressants and anti anxiety medicine couldn't. I struggled with post partum and this place taught me the skills to better cope with stress. They taught me to be kind to myself. I'm so grateful for them, they were a God sent. If it weren't for the fact that I'm in the middle of raising a young family and time for myself is scarce, I would be there every week

Never have I met a more welcoming community of people. I do wish I could go to shambala for their Sunday meditation more often.. but I'm a young college student so my sleeping schedule isn't as set as I'd like it to be ;) anyways, if you're curious about meditation but intimidated by the length of the session, you are allowed to show up late if you are quiet and show respect. Also, they alternate between sitting and standing, which is helpful for me because I start to fidget or fall asleep. And if you're afraid of your own willpower failing you and not allowing you to participate, for me it seems as if just having dedicated people surrounding me participating diligently in meditation, just the energy of these people keeps me grounded (literally) and allows me to stay the whole time. It's easy to give up meditating when by yourself, but not around others. Not that anybody asks you to stay or says anything or gives dirty looks, it's just easier to stay because of the energy of this place. And it's not too serious, either. It can be whatever you'd like to make it. I've seen some of the meditation guides crack some jokes at the end of the session, which is refreshing and invited after sitting and walking in silence.
