Suitable for couples, families, and small groups with ample seating and a calm, easy-to-navigate environment.
Plenty of seating on each deck. Tour guide was knowledgeable and voice was perfect for the job. I liked that he repeated a few facts as it can get a bit noisy inside, esp near the food area, and you might miss something he said. Scenic ride. The band inside gave options and decent music if you wanted to take a break from scenery on deck.
My sister and brother-in-law bought me the dinner cruise for a Christmas present. The cruise was on the City of New Orleans and not the Natchez. I have to say that the fried chicken is the best! The buffet dinner was very good. The jazz band is wonderful. The downfall was that the second deck had a problem with ventilation from the bathrooms. It seemed that the vents opened onto that deck's seating area. This was not pleasant. Obviously, I did not spend much time on that deck. My only advice would be to go on the Natchez. I have been on that boat two times and enjoyed every minute of it. I know that both boats are owned by the same company and reviews seem to only include the entire fleet. I couldn't find a review portal for just the City of New Orleans.
Visited Steamboat NATCHEZ on a weekday in the afternoon and waited less than 10 minutes to board. Overall, the experience was fine and relaxing, but it is important to set expectations correctly before booking. The cruise itself is fairly straightforward. The boat takes you out on the Mississippi River, circles around, and returns. Along the way, you see the Domino Sugar Refinery, a few industrial river views, and one of the nearby bridges. From a sightseeing perspective, there is nothing especially remarkable or educational about the route itself. Where the experience improves is on the boat. The live jazz performance adds a classic New Orleans touch and creates a pleasant atmosphere during the cruise. The onboard ambiance is calm, easy to move around, and suitable for couples, families, and small groups. There is also an option to get the ticket with the buffet available, priced at around $65 per person. The buffet is decent and convenient, though it felt more like standard cruise food rather than something particularly memorable. Whether it is worth the price depends on personal preference, but it is not a highlight of the experience. Tickets are best purchased in advance, especially if you want a specific time slot or plan to add the meal option. The tour length of about 1–2 hours feels appropriate and not too long. In summary, Steamboat NATCHEZ delivers a relaxed river cruise with live jazz and a traditional steamboat feel. The river views themselves are limited during noon vs in the night where you have more lighting to see, so the value comes more from being on the boat than from what you see along the way. Worth doing once if you are visiting New Orleans and want a laid-back experience, but not something I would repeat multiple times.
We went for a dinner cruise on the coldest night of our stay so that kind of ruined it for us. Too cold to stand out on deck and too dark to see anything. The meal itself was really good and the waitstaff are very good. The music was decent as well. For myself, I would either do a lunch cruise so you can actually see the sights along the river, or wait for a month that it's light enough out for the evening run.
This was a really nice boat ride, I'm did the daytime tour, which I do think would probably be a bit more noisy than that of the night due to a bunch of kids and families running around. Nonetheless, the scenery was beautiful and the narration was great as well. The food was quite yummy and the live band was also exceptional entertainment. I would recommend for a quick activity.
