I am extremely disappointed with my recent spa day at this hotel and the way the entire situation has been handled. Given the cost and the reputation of the spa, I expected a relaxing and enjoyable experience. Instead, the day was uncomfortable, disrupted, and absolutely not worth the money. From the moment we arrived, problems began. We were told the sauna wasn’t working due to maintenance, but even when staff said it was switched back on, it still had debris and signs of work left inside. The changing rooms and relaxation room were freezing because the heating had been turned off for repairs, making it impossible to relax or even get ready comfortably. Throughout the spa, we encountered maintenance staff, leakages, and wet floor signs, giving the entire place the feel of a work site rather than a spa we had paid a premium to use. Lunch—which we expected to enjoy in the restaurant—was instead served in a small corner of the café in reception. This was neither the environment nor the service level advertised. Shockingly, both my sister and I later developed very sore facial skin, including our eyelids, despite not having changed any products or routines. Speaking to each other afterwards made it very clear the spa facilities were the cause. However we were told because nobody had complained (to date) it can’t of been that and the levels were checked! Although we raised all these issues directly with the spa and customer service team, their response was dismissive and inadequate. Despite the number of problems and the clear impact on our health and experience, we were offered nothing more than a £50 voucher—an offer that completely fails to reflect the extent of the issues. We requested a full refund £228.00 for 2 people! This was reasonable given how severely the day fell below expectations, yet this was refused with the claim that no other guests complained, however we heard people complaining amongst thereselves and also complaining re the debris. Overall, our “spa day” was cold, stressful, poorly managed, and a total waste of money. The lack of accountability and poor customer service afterwards have only added to the frustration. I would strongly advise anyone considering a visit to think twice. I am still suffering with my skin now and all Oulton Hall have to say is they will do better next time. AVOID!!!!
We went to The Spa at Oulton Hall because we bought a spa package to celebrate an important day. The facilities themselves were fine, clean, relaxing and easy to navigate. The 50 min facial and back ritual massage was absolutely out of this world in a very good way. The pool was at an ok temperature, we managed to use the jacuzzi, sauna and steam room, and the quiet room was so enticing we almost slept there. However, the light lunch experience was absolutely horrendous. We had to pay more for fries and an extra course, because all the they have is 2 options of salads, a soup with bread, drinks and 2 options of dessert. The waiters didn't communicate with each other so we had multiple people asking us the same question; the soup and bread was ok and so was the salad with tuna and fries, but the dessert? Oh God. The berry pot was rancid, they literally put one single rotten raspberry on top, the strawberries were mushy so we didn't dare to get to the bottom of the glass; and the brownie was dry and stale. Definitely won't be having food at that place again.
The spa was amazing, staff very good. The let down was having to wait 40 minutes to get a drink in the champagne bar.
Me and my mum visited the spa today to celebrate her birthday, we paid around £92 for the day including lunch and one treatment each. The spa itself is very average, the jacuzzi, sauna and steam room are nice but the pool is quite small and it was cold which is very unusual for a spa. The chairs around the pool are actually quite uncomfortable too however there is a nice relaxation room just near the treatment rooms, which has sun loungers to relax. The actual robes they provide were broken with the belts but this is a minor issue. The lunch was awful, it’s not clear on booking what the lunch options are but there were literally only 2 salads on the menu and that’s it. This alone is not an issue for me as I do like a chicken Caesar salad however the lettuce was brown when I got to the bottom few leaves which was disappointing but the chicken was nice and quite a bit of it. However the Asian noodle salad was not as advertised at all it was beetroot flavoured noodles and rocket, it lacked any real flavour. We finished the day with our treatments, I had the facial and massage whilst my mum had the back exfoliation and massage. The treatments are what made the day worth it as they were very relaxing and they use Elemis products too.
From the moment we walked in, to the second we left, we thought this place and the staff were outstanding!! Reception staff were very friendly and helpful, the place itself is absolutely stunning! We stayed for 1 night, our room was lovely, everything we needed and more was in there. Very clean, the bed was like sleeping on a cloud, could not find a fault!! We had our evening meal in the restaurant, the food was lovely, and plenty of too!! We also bought a bottle of wine to share, that was delicious and the prices were reasonable. Lovely relaxed, chilled atmosphere in the restaurant. I'd like to give a special mention to the man who looked after us for the evening REECE, what a star he was!! Had us both laughing and he was very attentive and sweet! We are still talking about him now. Thank you reece, you made our stay even more unforgettable! Breakfast the next morning was outstanding!! Everything you could think of was there! We had a mixture of everything (of course you have to) could not fault it! Overall, our stay was amazing!! Couldn't of been better. Definitely a place we will visit often (we have rebooked again for this Friday, really hoping reece is there again) Oulton Hall, you'll always have a special place in our hearts now. Who knows, we might even get married here! (Hint) Thank you to everyone at Oulton Hall for making our stay unforgettable. I would 100% recommend a stay here.
