Our family went through one of the most stressful experiences of our lives because of a report UT-CDC made to CPS (child protection services) in May 2025. A teacher noticed a small bruise on our daughter’s hip at drop-off — a completely ordinary mark that doctors later confirmed was a typical playground injury — and instead of calling us to ask what happened, the centre filed a CPS report claiming it could have been caused by a hammer. This led to two weeks of investigations, home visits, a forensic exam at Dell Children’s Hospital (for which we were billed $490), multiple interviews, and even our older daughter being questioned at her school — all while my wife suffered panic attacks and we lost days of work. After everything, CPS and the Austin Police Department closed the case as unfounded and found absolutely no evidence of abuse. We fully respect mandated-reporting laws, but the lack of basic judgment and communication here caused serious trauma for our family. The centre still has not apologized or taken accountability for how this was handled. If you are a parent considering this school, please be aware: they appear to over-report to CPS, sometimes without first contacting parents. A single bruise — even in an obvious play area — can result in a full abuse investigation. Parents deserve transparency, common sense, and empathy, none of which we experienced.
I am a parent of a three year old with food allergies, energy and curiosity! He has been in care since around 2 ½. At first in a home care setting, then in a larger setting that marketed itself as being similar to this one. That center had too many kids and inexperienced teachers without the support to implement appropriate pedagogy to develop well-rounded little ones. The difference in this center compared to the last is 100% better. The teachers are excellent! The administration and staff are top-notch! They create a community where you know your child is fully cared about and supported. UTCDC meets the 5-star mark in my book. We should have known that a childcare center that’s part of UT would be the perfect spot.
This is one of the best childcare facilities in the city of Austin. It definitely has a long wait list (we waited 19 months before our child had a spot in the toddler program) so I advise you sign up as soon as you can. My child has loved his teachers at this school, and their meal program makes my life easy! If you are affiliated with the University of Texas, I cannot recommend this place enough. Run to sign up!
The Comal CDC has the most caring teachers, administrators, and staff. They treat my kids like their own. They are highly trained, exceedingly experienced and some of the best professional care givers I know. This place is like family.
We've had two children at UTCDC - Comal and have had a wonderful experience. Our oldest started shortly before turning three and our second has been in the program since the infant room. The teachers are loving and kind, little turnover in staff (which I love), and the facility is always well-kept. We had cycled through a couple of daycares before and knew that this school was the perfect one for our family. Could not be more happy!
