I have goals of exercising if I am not walking, riding my bike or playing tennis. I came here to try it out. I also love Karate and martial arts. Our style is tae kwon do, but we also do boxing, kung fu forms, weapons. I did BJJ here also, but coach Cliff has his own dojo now. Master Ben is very good at instruction as well as our other other Sensei Master Williams. Master Ben is a weapons expert and Master Williams is our personal trainer if you will ,motivating us to do are exercise outside of class also. I enjoy coming to Underground fitness and self defense.
We have been participating in online classes. Master LaMasters is an excellent and very patient teacher explaining moves so that anyone can understand them. His teaching pace allows for all participants to be successful. I highly recommend!
When my granddaughter said she was having her 7th birthday party here, I'll admit I was sure most of the kids wouldn't participate and the party would end up a bust. I'll also admit that I couldn't have been more wrong. The instructor kept the kids engaged and motivated the entire two hours. The games he played with them were educational and fun but he didn't let any of them win just for the sake of winning. He was encouraging, professional, personable, and the kids had a great time. If you're looking for something different to do for a child's birthday party, hands down this is one of the best experiences I've ever witnessed.
Ever since we arrived to Jacksonville Florida we started looking for martial arts facilities. Underground Fitness and Self Defense with Master Lamasters and Master Williams in it’s management is exactly what we needed, since they really helped us to train solidly and learn a lot of things like work ethics, discipline and overall learning the karate 🥋 by great methodic. Courtesy, modesty, integrity, self-control and perseverance is a solid foundation that they refer to each and every training and they teach each of this concepts throughout the whole journey of their students. Really great place if you want your kids to excel and be really good at karate and all the mentioned things. Mentors are great and it only takes a desire and great work ethics from you. Would have stayed there, but due to family circumstances had to move. Absolutely Recommend 👍🏽✊🏽
Last Saturday was a day we'll cherish forever - a thrilling experience at Underground Fitness and Self Defense's karate belt testing held at the picturesque Alimacani Park. My son, Trip, and I were immersed in a whirlwind of excitement that included paddle boarding, running, swimming, and, of course, plenty of fun! From the moment we stepped onto the mats, it was evident that we were in the hands of true masters. Master Ben LaMasters and Master Chris Williams have been an absolute joy to work with over the years. Their dedication, hard work, and passion for martial arts shine through in every aspect of their teaching. What struck us the most was their unwavering patience and kindness. No question was too small, no technique too difficult. They have an incredible ability to make every student, young or old, feel seen, heard, and valued. But it's not just about the moves and forms; it's the life lessons they instill that make all the difference. Through martial arts, they have imparted invaluable qualities like discipline, respect, and self-confidence to our son. We've watched Trip grow not only as a martial artist but as a well-rounded and confident individual, and for that, we will be forever grateful. The belt testing was a fantastic blend of physical challenges and personal growth. Paddle boarding amidst the serene waters, running through the scenic park, and conquering the swimming challenges felt like an adventure straight out of a movie! To Master Ben and Master Chris: You both have not only taught karate but also infused a spirit of camaraderie among all the students, making Underground Fitness and Self Defense feel like a big family.
