One of our regular Japanese restaurants in Adelaide! The food and service are consistently great, the prices are reasonable, and it’s always a lovely spot to catch up with friends or enjoy a casual date night. Bookings are required if you want to secure a spot.
Very popular restaurant in Adelaide. The trading hours is quite short. The dining area is not spacious. Recommend booking in advance. Waiters are attentive.Sashimi is very fresh. Like the salmon don.The price and portion are reasonable. Highly recommend.
The food here is AMAZING! If you like authentic Japanese food this is the place to go. It’s not the biggest restaurant, tucked away just off Adelaide Central Market, it pays to make a booking first. The staff were run off their feet, on the night we were there, but when we did get service it was friendly and hospitable. The sashimi is gorgeous, octopus balls - lovely and tempura - fresh and tasty. No complaints with anything we ate or drank.
I had a great solo dinner at Wasai and was impressed by the whole experience. The restaurant is clean and tastefully decorated with Japanese art, and the soft 80s city pop music playing in the background adds a relaxed, nostalgic vibe. It was surprisingly busy for a Wednesday night—by 6:40 pm, people were already waiting for tables. The food was solid overall. The sashimi was fresh, though the slices were on the thinner side. The tempura stood out—light, crisp, and full of flavour. I finished with the tofu donuts, which were subtly sweet—not super sweet, which some may like but wasn’t quite to my taste. They also gave me complimentary edamame, which was a nice touch, though slightly soft. I had a glass of sake to complement the meal, and all up it came to $80. Service was friendly and attentive without being overbearing. Would happily return, great for a solo dinner or a relaxed night out with friends, though it is on the pricey side.
It was good to return to Wasai again. After They are a reliable Japanese restaurant to go to with a menu that includes Vegan options. When I made my reservation, I put in the note that someone dining with us is Vegan and they provided a Vegan menu. +1⭐️ We had the tuna sashimi from the specials menu. It was fresh and sliced well. Also from the specials menu was the grilled Mackerel which I enjoyed very much. The medium Sashimi and Sushi boat was generous and priced well for 2 people to share. We also had the grilled squid which was grilled to perfection - it was tender and sweet. The beef tataki was beautifully sliced thinly with a light sauce and combined with the fresh sliced red onion, it was delicious. +3⭐️ Our Vegan friend had a bowl of hearty soba noodles that came with a plate of tempura vegetables. It was enjoyed. +1⭐️ One of my favourite Japanese restaurants in Adelaide.
