Abbey’s Bookshop is the kind of place that quietly reminds you why physical bookshops still matter. It’s not flashy, or full of gimmicks - the moment you start browsing the shelves, the depth & care of the collection speaks for itself. The range is impressive across both fiction / non-fiction, with classics and history standing out as particular strengths. What really sets Abbey’s apart is the feeling that the books are chosen for you, not just stocked. You’ll find titles here; especially in history, politics, and the classics - that are hard to come across elsewhere, alongside newer works that clearly belong. It’s a place where I have wandered without a specific title in mind and still leave with something worthwhile. The atmosphere is calm and inviting, encouraging long, unhurried browsing. Staff are very knowledgeable, genuinely helpful, and happy to chat if you want recommendations / guidance, without ever being overbearing. If you value thoughtful curation, serious reading, and a bookshop with character, Abbey’s is well worth a visit - and always worth a revisit.

A real gem. While it doesn't compare to the most aesthetically pleasing bookstores in the CBD, it's the best bookstore in the area. Full shelves and an expansive selection of all genres. In particular, the classics and ancient history sections are fantastic. Would highly highly recommend.

Absolutely love this bookstore - anytime I am in Sydney I make a visit and buy multiple books. Their classics section is second to none, and their ancient history section has a ton of semi-academic texts that are difficult to find elsewhere. Highly recommend for anyone who’s a history buff or who likes reading old-timey texts ☝🏻

Abbeys bookshop surprised me so much. The general atmosphere was amazing and I would love to go back. They have a wide variety of novels and other styles as well. Staff were really kind to us when paying and are always open to casual conversation. Overall, a great bookshop on York St. 📚💯

A nice bookstore just around the corner of Red Eye Records. There’s a wide range of genres ranging from science fiction and general fiction. I didn’t manage to find the tiles i was looking for but it was still a nice visit to drop by and take a look.
