Update: Overall, I recommend this place. I left a negative review in late 2024. One of the owners promptly offered to give me a deeply discounted membership. I did not take them up on their offer, but I did continue to attend yoga classes at this studio for another year. Here is an updated review (2025): Facilities: You can tell that the owners put a lot of thought and effort into the design and outfitting of this place. The yoga room, foyer, and dressing rooms are minimalist and calming, and everything you need is at hand. Hot yoga classes: The yoga room is truly hot - not just warm - so if you are a fellow sauna-junkie, this is an amazing place to do yoga. There is a wide variety of classes, so there's almost sure to be one that in your favorite style. Most classes seem to have a set playlist which provides more of a gym-work-out vibe and less of a meditative vibe. Listening to the same music a couple times a week for months is not a dealbreaker, but the repetition can be a tad crazy-making. The people: Marisa, one of the owners, is an inspiring and attentive teacher, a skillful small business owner, and an overall lovely person. There are several other teachers [like Rebecca (sp?)] who are great teachers, too. The community has a bit of cliquishness, and I have heard two of the staff gossiping in a whispers about someone who was present in the same room as them, which was disheartening. Other: You can sign up for classes pretty easily via a browser, an app or in person. They almost always have a new student deal and/or a groupon special which make it very affordable to try. Original review: In sum: You have to have secret knowledge for the annual "doorbuster" sale. I'm relatively new to the Durham Arrichion. I tried to take part in their annual "doorbuster" sale. I was there 15 minutes before the doors opened and took my place (third in queue). It was very cold (19F), which is why I had decided to only come 15 minutes early. A few minutes before the sale, some 7 other people came over to the door, and formed a new queue. They told those of us in the original queue that it wasn't actually a doorbuster sale. All you had to do was be in the parking lot. I pointed out that there was nothing about waiting in your car in the sale advertisement. The new queue ignored what I said. The person who opened the door glanced at our queue, turned back to the queue with the older members, and without asking any questions, gave them the "doorbuster" prizes. Now, I appreciate that Arrichion wants their customers to be safe and warm. However, if the rules are that you wait in your car, then they should advertise as much. I would have happily arrived much earlier. Since they did not post those rules, they privileged their older members who had been to the sale before. The place is cliquish, and I'm not sure if the favoritism is accidental or intentional. I hope it's an oversight, which is partially why I'm posting - maybe Arrichion will read this and do better in the future. If they don't ...well, that's the other reason I'm posting: I hope this warning and information is helpful to someone else in the future.
Amazing hot yoga studio! Coach Sarah is a great instructor! Thoroughly enjoyed my time here.
I've gone to the Yoga studio on and off for 5 years, only doing one class (Topaz, which has been great). Today I tried one of their Sparta classes and it was incredible. The individual who ran the class has a nice compliment being intense and informative all at once. Like I hated every second of it and immediately want to sign up again. The individuals taking the class make you feel like you're a regular. If you are at all hesitant about trying a new class or new gym, I would highly encourage you to give them a try. Top notch organization.
I have VERY high standards for yoga as I have been practicing for a long time and I have been to more studios than I can count. Being a yogi is a very big part of my identity and it's not something I compromise on. This is THE PLACE! It's hard to put into words how much I love Arrichion! If I had to narrow it down to the one thing that made it most special, it would be the owners. Steve and Marisa are the world's best people! They have walked alongside of me as I have returned from 2 of the hardest I've ever been through. They did that with so much love and they never babied me. They always expect me to show up, do my best and leave it all on the mat. I am a better person and a much stronger person (both mentally and physically) from having practiced here. This place feels more like home than anywhere else in Durham.
What is hot yoga? I thought I would die trying it. Why wouldn't I think that with class names like Bloodstone? After three classes at Arrichion with Marisa and her instructors, I live to review their joint! If you do not like a sense of community, attention of instructor, good and clear instructions, straight to the point group exercise, excessive sweating, good music (to me anyways) than this place ain't for you. The sign up process takes just five minutes. One of the staff will give you a tour. You can start sweating right after. This place is friendly, straight up and from what I have experienced, they have not asked or pestered me to join or sign up for anything. I love places that conduct business like this. Let the consumer buy based on your merits. No marketing or gimmicks needed. I am getting me a package and utilize hot yoga to rebuild pliability. What a gem within the Durham, North Carolina community at South Point. Swing by and give this place a try. Currently special is just $20 for 20 straight days of classes. Take any class that you want to try. Get to class early or you may miss out!
