We had a warm and welcoming experience here. The people seemed wonderful and the practice seemed genuine and authentic in the school of Chogyam Trungpa.
I started meditating with an App, about 2 1/2 years ago. 6 months into a daily practice I started looking for other people, a place where I could explore meditation further and with a community. I shopped around town at various places in Austin. The Shambhala Center is where I found a home where I could get real and grow. Also a great place to learn Ikebana and Miksang.
Meditation struck my interest in my early 20's, and I attempted to learn how to sit with the instruction of books alone. I didn't find practice sustainable until I found this community of meditators to join and learn with and grow with. The collective wisdom of the sangha and profound dharma teachings inspire me and leave me hungry for the vastness of Buddha's teachings as I follow the Shambhala educational path. The center's members strive to be inclusive, open-hearted and kind. Many points of entry, for beginners, make the transition to available programs accessible and personal, such as our LGBTQ group, Young Meditators Group and Children First, to name a few.
I found the Center when I was waiting to become a mom. I know my parenting would be so much different without the teachings I've received there. And I love bringing my children to the events for families and the whole sangha (community). I always feel so free to communicate with everyone there, even strangers, openly and honestly which is priceless. Everyone is supportive even when one of my children is having a hard time doing what everyone else is doing.
I had been meditating a bit, but was interested in finding what was called a Sangha. I had no idea. I found a few that really helped me, yet something was missing. By luck I stumbled into Shambhala. They really run a great program! Kids program every first Sunday. Meditation instructors that are full of wisdom. All kinds of classes that help you learn how to find true joy! I am a life longer!
