The atmosphere is pretty decent, but two people without alcohol at $160 negates that. You usually get what you pay for. We had two mains with three sides. The mains were fine, my scampi was a solid 4 and my wife's filet mignon she gave a 5 full five stars, but our sides... The spinach was the best, but just okay. Better because of the rest, and we were hungry. The risotto was tied with the scalloped potatoes. The risotto had more flavor, but was so salty that it was inedible after a handful of bites. The scalloped potatoes were fairly tasteless, but also too salty, though less than the risotto. Basically, those two didn't have enough flavor so they used salt to cover. Not a good sign. My mouth was puckered by the end of the meal because I ate too much of them before quitting. It wasn't terrible, but I'd write the same review at a quarter of the price. This review is probably a little biased because it was an anniversary dinner leaving both of us disappointed. The mains were good, but perhaps consider sides like baked potato that can't be messed up.

My wife and i shared the ceasar salad and shrimp scampi. Bread warm but just ok. Salad excellent. Rissoto very good. Shrimp over cooked and flavorless. Did not resemble traditional shrimp scampi. No butter no garlic no lemon no breadcrumbs. Just nit good. Should have sent it back but on a schedule. Lovely place and excellent server.

When traveling, we like to support local restaurants instead of chains; hence, Carmines. Sadly, it was disappointing. We had the boneless ribeye special. For the price, it was flavorful but SO tough. If we had not been with guests, I would have returned it. Our waiter started off shakey, but got better as the evening went on. He said the bar and kitchen were backed-up. 🤷🏻♀️ If we ever return to St Louis, we will not be dining at Carmines.
