This is an interesting place. It is fine as long as you know what you are in for. The cafeteria style is cool and they really can hustle a ton of people through there quickly. You get what you pay for and in this case it’s a fast and easy steak.
Ok, so I like to get off the beaten path and check out the local flora and fauna. My brother in law suggested this place for its iconic history and great food. This place is popular and located in an ideal place as it is right across from the Fox theater. We were in town for the Usher Concert, so why not? I heard that there is normally a line out the door, but this time, we were able to walk right in. Upon entering, you are greeted with a narrow and uninviting interior with dark areas where the lights have been turned off and tables and chairs stacked, denoting that these areas are closed for some reason. Tables and booths were aligned in the typical order, and the decor was definitely an afterthought. Think Mel's dinner but in a dank dungeon. You seat yourself. Let me tell you, this place is designed to get you in and out. After walking in, the pressure is amped up as you quickly need to make your selection because the staff will yell ""NEXT"!! You need to decide and decide NOW, then hurry up and grab your desert. The desert options consisted of a variety of cakes and pies, which I thought were very tasty. You also have the option of getting a salad. I felt rushed. I understand this place is designed for volume business. Get in and get out! Steaks, onions, and potatoes are prepared in an efficient real-time machine like process that spits out average tasting food like a Toyota Prius rolling off the assembly line. Good, but not great. It will get you to your destination. The yelling continued, urging me to decide on fries or baked potato or some other side. Temperatures were raised, and brows furled. People were hungry. The urgency was high, and decisions needed to be made. I reacted quickly and was relieved to finally pay $49.00 for my wife and I. I ordered the Ribye medium with fries. They gave me a baked potato instead. No harm, no foul. The Ribye was thinly cut and cooked with the bludgeoning delicacy that reminded me of Tyson v Berbick. It was tough, but after a few jaw grinding rounds , the fight was over. The baked potato had those hard, undercooked elements that you don't like, but you accept because of your hunger. I was starving so I can't say that I didn't like it. It's a good spot for a quick meal.
Not your normal overpriced snobby Steak House! It’s more like a greasy spoon diner with great staff great vibe and great food! Put a couple dollars in the tip jar and you can change your potato to tiptatoes!
Can’t believe this was my first time here! The line was long but moving. People calling out orders left and right. I was full from the chicken and green beans, I couldn’t eat anything else. I managed to taste the steak and potatoes which did not disappoint. I saved that for lunch the next day💪🏽
We recently visited the Best Steakhouse in St. Louis to celebrate a loved one’s birthday, but unfortunately, the experience fell short of expectations. The restaurant offers ample seating, which is a positive, but the long line and slow service set the tone for a less-than-ideal visit. While the prices are relatively affordable, the quality of the food reflected that. My steak was overcooked, and the grilled shrimp were noticeably undercooked, which was disappointing for a venue specializing in steakhouse fare. A significant safety concern was the uneven flooring, which caused my mother to trip and fall during our visit. This incident left her covered in soda and food, and while the restaurant did replace her meal, I believe her dining experience should have been fully comped given the circumstances. Overall, the experience was mediocre. While the restaurant may appeal to those seeking an inexpensive meal, the trade-offs in food quality, service speed, and safety make it unlikely I would return. For those on a budget, this might be an option—but temper your expectations accordingly.
