Denise has been my physical therapist for several months now, and I can’t recommend her enough. I drive an hour each way and pay out of pocket to see her because she’s worth it. Before that, I saw a PT through my insurance post ankle surgery, who was juggling 4-5 patients every session and clearly burnt out. Looking back, he showed me only a handful of fairly basic stretches and exercises, and was rarely around to correct my form before graduating me off pretty quickly. I blame the system and not him, though. Moving to a private practice has been a refreshing experience with more personalized care and dedicated attention. Even their space in the Arts District is a vibe. Through my sessions with Denise, I’ve learned so much about my body and the lifelong movement patterns I now have to unlearn, like how I tend to place more weight along the outside edges of my feet, which makes me prone to ankle injuries. I’ve also learned that I don’t know how to relax my shoulders and habitually over-engage my upper traps while neglecting my lower traps. With her guidance and support, I’m learning to move my body and engage different parts of it more safely, strengthen my balance, rebuild capacity, and return to the activities I love.
