Great gym overall. The equipment is always clean and well-maintained, plenty of space even during peak hours, and the staff is friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is motivating without being intimidating, and there’s a solid mix of machines, free weights, and cardio. Definitely a place that keeps you consistent and coming back.
For the same reasons as other recent reviewers, I do not recommend this gym. This gym makes it as difficult as possible to cancel, and I will be filing a complaint with the FTC. Being heavily pregnant and having not visited this gym in a while (as in, before it apparently transitioned to ownership under Fit4Life), I visited the gym in-person in October to pay late fees and cancel my membership because the prior ownership required in-person cancellation. The front desk was very polite and said it would not be a problem - they took my card to pay that month's subscription as well as outstanding fees, and they said cancellation had been processed. (Yes, in hindsight I should have asked for a confirmation.) However, I continued to get charged a membership fee in both November and December. After the December charge, I called the gym to ask why I was still being charged -- the front desk says that I actually *haven't* been cancelled as doing so requires working with some third party company, and they send me a link to create an account with them. This was red flag number 1, because if cancellation requires use of this third party, why was I told my account was cancelled? They also dismissed my desire for a refund for the two months I shouldn't have been charged for, saying I would need to work that out with the third party company. On the phone, they noted that I was not the only person calling with this issue and complained about a non-smooth transfer of ownership; which, by the end of this, cannot fully be blamed for how this situation was handled. Well, I follow the link to create an account through Peak Payment, and the activation link won't work for my phone number of email. So now I'm having to call Peak Payment to get support's help with cancellation and a refund. The support person was friendly and happy to help with cancellation but said that because there was no record of the cancellation, she wouldn't be able to help me with any refunds so I'd need to call the gym back. She also said that the gym requires a 30-day cancellation notice, so I'm still going to be charged for yet another month. The initial email after the support call said this was a ticket that would be resolved in 5-7 business days, but because it took a bit to hear if this was *actually* cancelled *and* because I needed to work out a refund, I called the gym front desk again and relayed the story again and asked if I could speak with their membership representative or the gym manager. I eventually got to speak with a manager, who I had to relay the story to yet again; the response was that "this was a lot of information" and that they couldn't both hold the phone and look up my account, and also the gym was going to get busy that evening, so that they would call me back about 9am the next day. No call until 9:19am, so I missed it initially, and listened to the voicemail to hear no update about my request at all and just that "he had another meeting at 9:30," so that if he didn't call back by noon that day, he'd call back the next day. So essentially, he called to ensure there was as little time to talk to me as possible, and he also didn't call back at noon or the next day. This is an unnecessarily difficult process for cancellation, poor customer service, and theft through predatory business practices. I was highly cordial despite the runaround I was getting, and for reference, I have been a gym member of 3 other gyms in the RTP area and have never had issues with any of them. Avoid this gym at all costs... there are plenty of others you can go to!
While the transition from Fuel Fitness to Fit4Life was certainly surprising it has been nothing short of incredible. It is a completely new gym experience with new equipment, updated facilities, new aesthetics, and the ability to come and go 24/7 along with great staff! I was worried about possible adjustments to monthly price but was quickly reassured and payments have remained the same. I now feel I get to be part of a high end gym at the price of a local gym, it’s been great!
The Durham facility is Class A. 95% new equipment and it’s the cleanest darn gym I’ve ver been to. The staff is very friendly and if you put in just a little time, they welcome you by name. They are kind and instructive. On top of that, the smoothie bar offers a quick post workout protein lift at a feasible price. If you are in the Southpoint neighborhood, I can’t imagine a better gym alternative Thank you
