The coaching and community (I’ve met several members I now call friends) really stand out at Fuel Fitness. Hal brings incredible energy and knowledge to every session—he’s motivating, approachable, and clearly knows his stuff. I also really enjoy Chris’s cycle class; it’s challenging, well-run, and always a great workout. One thing I especially appreciate is the information clinics they offer, including bench, squat, deadlift, and overall strength sessions taught by Allison. She has been incredibly helpful while prepping for the 600lb club competition. I always love an opportunity to learn more about better form and which exercises pair well together to progress each compound lift. Fuel Fitness does an awesome job creating an environment where you’re constantly learning and improving.
I love Fuel Fitness. It is a great place to work out. The staff is amazing. Especially, Abbi Dillon and Chris at the front desk. The trainers are knowledgeable and fun to workout with. The facility is clean, they just hired new cleaners. They just repaired the roof, which is pretty cool and they are friendly when you come in.
I have been paying for gym memberships since I was 23. Before that, I worked in a gym for a few years...and before that, I played Division I football. I know workout facilities. They typically fall into two categories: 1) Those that you cannot wait to get to because they help you make progress; 2) Those that you hate to go to because you can get a good workout there. Fuel is one of those places that will drive you to be better. The first thing you will notice is that the staff at the front desk is very friendly and welcoming. They greet you when you walk through the door. And they always set a good mood for the workout. The next thing you will notice is a fully stocked fitness facility. From aerobic machines to resistance training and ample plate-loaded machines and free weights, you can work every body part from every angle. There is a spin room and an aerobic room for those that indulge in classes. Most importantly is the sense of camaraderie amongst members. Need a spot? You can get it. Want help with an exercise, no problem. You will find a mix of serious lifters and those that simply want to maintain a regular fitness routine. My membership included access to a "recovery room" of sorts....mini-massagers and giant massage chairs. It was very effective since I was recovering from a strained calf from too may 2-mile runs at my age. All, in all, it gives you more than you would expect for the money. A great bargain at any price because its so well maintained and the staff is great. If I had one complaint, it would be that - at my age - I am a bit "fru-fru" with my gyms, so I like to have overly clean dressing rooms, a sauna and a hot shower. It's a workout "experience" for me. The sauna was not working on a couple of trips and I could not get the water to heat up in my shower. Everything else was so on point that I did not let that ruin my love for the gym. If you are in Winston-Salem, and you are looking for a gym, this is one of the places you should see first!
Seems like it's in limbo a bit between management turn over. The new PT director isn't very pleasant and puts off a vibe that she's bothered by being there. The gym has nice equipment. The building itself has a roof leak issue and some of the equipment is broken but they seem to try to fix it in a reasonable amount of time. I know they were looking into fixng the roof. They do try to keep it clean but there are times when it's not mainly the bathrooms. But to be fair, many gyms have this issue due to people just being gross. I still go there and have no hard feelings toward anyone. I have noticed the overall atmosphere has declined slightly since many left. Eric, Dylan, Alex, Gabe, Naj and a few others are gone. Seems like when they left so did the morale to some degree. Not saying anything negative about the current front desk staff. Abby and Chris are great but you can tell a difference. Hal is always upbeat which nice when you're not 100% feeling a workout but you forced yourself to go. Hopefully they'll regain that high energy feel when you walk in the door. I would recommend checking the gym out. Again it's a good gym that seems to be in a transitional stage. This is my honest opinion. At one time this was a 5 star vote for me. I don't see why it couldn't be again.
What a wonderful place Fuel Fitness is, there are very clean and no issues. People don't interrupt your workout very peaceful environment. My trainer Hal is very kind, and understanding my physical needs. He pushes me to I can get stronger and better. But so much that hurts, he is very experienced and knowledgeable. He is very passionate on helping me reach my goal. He even Helping me with my rehabilitation for my knee replacement and my Fused foot. And also a joy and funny as trainer. He really need a raise and promotion. Very outstanding person Hal is, honestly if he was there. Probably want be where I am today. I have lost 100s plus pounds and Fuel Fitness. Hal the trainer is truly a blessing. John
