Over a decade ago, I was coming for lunch all the time and loved it. I broke my hiatus by going for dinner last night: two people, Friday night, seats at the sushi bar. The wait service (Aaron) was fantastic, attentive, and helpful with suggestions. We were both disappointed by the food. The brussels sprouts were fantastic, but nothing else had any flavor and the amount of rice on nigiri and rolls was horrifying. The Crudo was beautiful, but had absolutely no flavor, and same comment for the nigiri and rolls. The dumplings had a great flavor, but we’re not served hot enough. Nigiri was great quality fish, good texture, but no taste, and again with WAY too much rice. While the restaurant overall has a fantastic vibe, the sushi bar was boring, faced away from the beautiful restaurant, and crowded. We spent $218 for two people, no booze. The big line items were the crudo (Hiramasa Serrano) and Voltron roll. Unfortunately this one was a miss for us. We will not be returning.
We went for my wife’s birthday celebration and Lucky Robot exceeded our expectations! Every single dish was packed with flavor and a generous portion. The price was so fair. And service was so warm and attentive! We will absolutely be back.
We have visited Lucky Robot numerous times it is an exceptional experience every time. We love the super fresh fish and the care & knowledge for their wonderful ingredients. My favorite roll is the C-3PO. I think their omakase is the way to go sooo many courses for a great deal and their team takes the time to learn what you do and do not like so the experience is tailored to each guest.
Whatever the cost, this place is worth it. I can see how some places in Austin are total tourist traps but this is not one of them. Don't let the Instagram appeal fool you. Service was impeccable, our waiter checked in on us frequently and was very knowledgeable about the menu. The decor was detailed and very appealing. They even had a coveted swing for seating. The food was very fresh with an eclectic menu and a small but diverse cocktail menu. The pork belly bao was one of my favorites anywhere. The crispy barbacoa dumpling was absolutely delicious. The dining area isnt that large so I'd highly recommend reservations during peak hours.
Absolute excellent food. The chicken Karagge (not sure if I spelled it correctly) was unbelievably scrumptious and out of this world. Also the sushi plates were amazing. Everything was good, but the service wasn’t very attentive. And the seating was uncomfortable. Still a pretty good experience overall and highly recommend it!
