I climb here all the time and am only giving 3 stars because of what seems to be a companywide policy: opening more gyms and expanding continuously while regularly raising prices. I’m a full-time student and my monthly membership is still nearly $100, which makes it close to unaffordable for me. The staff are friendly and helpful and the facilities are good, hence 3/5 stars. Just wish the company would make prices more accessible so the joy of climbing was within reach for more folks!
The worst climbing gym in Colorado. Small & old gym always packed past capacity during peak hours. Parking is ridiculous, would recommend planning ahead to allow 20+ minutes to find parking. Likely in a spot your car can barely fit in or a mile away. Top-rope routes are boring and unoriginal. Lead climbers choose to climb on top-rope wall during peak hours leaving us nowhere to go. Bouldering area is also terrible. Also if you need a lead rope the waitlist is around 2 hours during peak time. They need to open a new one in Metro Denver so everyone isn’t forced to go to this location or drive 30 minutes to the other locations.
I had a very disappointing interaction with the front desk today. I purchased a Petzl Neox on Thursday and was not informed that sale would be final since it’s safety gear. I used the Neox yesterday and it felt unsafe to me. It loosely allows slack from the brake strand to slip back through the device unless there’s constant tension on the rope. We hoped to exchange it for a normal grigri (which is half the price of the Neox) and your front desk did not allow it. We had no way to test the device and were not informed the sale is final, so how would we ever know if the Neox was a good product for us to use? I’m disappointed that your team provided no remedy to this issue and then told us REI would do the same thing. We talked to REI and they confirmed we can return safety gear, they just wouldn’t resell it. This just tells me I should never buy any gear from movement again. I was about to switch over from Denver bouldering club since I wanted to do indoor sport routes during the winter, but will not be switching anymore. Denver bouldering club treats their members much better than this
I got a membership here as I started to pick up climbing and I'm quite pleased with this gym. The gym features bouldering, top rope, cardio machines, a yoga studio (which doesn't mirrors if that matters to you), a full weight lifting gym, and multipurpose gym areas. I don't think I could find a gym that offers more to it's members in the area if I tried. There are also special events where that they host like trivia night and sometimes vendors that offer freebies. The staff is always friendly and generous with rentals if you're new. Plus, everyone gets a free trial day and members have a guest pass to bring a friend once a month. However, my experience at this gym hasn't been perfect and I think that's worth mentioning. Firstly, I began my membership near the beginning of the summer where they were running a promotion with cheaper monthly rates. Despite this, I was still charged the full rate of membership for my first three months which is a little unfrotuante. Second, the snacks at the snack bar are a little expensive but they have a good selection if you don't mind the markup. Thirdly, the parking lot uses diagnoal parking spots which can be awkward to park in as some people won't pull into the spot at all whichs blocks the driving lane. OR, they will pull up too far taking up the spot in front of them. Overall, I find that aspect annoying but it is at no fault of Movement. Overall, I think this gym is great and worth a try if you want to get into rock climbing or use the other equipment they provide!
I would give this place 1000 stars!! We wanted to climb on our road trip, and this gym was a delightful treat! Great boulders, fun top rope, something for everyone. Gleaming locker rooms, and friendly friendly staff! I kind of want to travel more just to come back and say hi. One of our climbers had a breakthrough on the wall, learned some new stuff, and they genuinely cared and were enthusiastic. LOVE THIS GYM!!
