I've been training at Myo Lab for just over six months and am thrilled with my results so far. MYO Lab should be your first stop if you’re looking for personal training in the Oakland area. I decided to try it out after years of self led workouts and group classes to overcome a plateau and achieve gains that I wasn’t getting on my own. I started training with Matt last month and already feel so much more empowered to reach the next level in my fitness without burnout or injury. We work on fundamental technique for familiar, non-flashy exercises and he provides the keys to unlocking the maximum benefit in each movement. Matt has phenomenal insights into the body’s mechanics and gives detailed explanations on how to isolate the target muscles with precision, and most importantly how to feel them engage and working. Prior to personal instruction, I thought I had already developed a solid body awareness, but he has further challenged me to deepen my mind-body connection. Matt’s coaching never feels punishing, and his encouragement and patience has helped me make steady progress over a short period. The education he provides is a worthwhile investment to build healthy strength training habits that can be carried into any forms of movement.
I can’t recommend Matt highly enough. He is patient, thoughtful, and very much a no-BS trainer in the best way. His attention to form is unmatched. He is constantly checking in, asking where I feel each movement in my body and how I’m doing, which makes every session feel intentional and safe. Matt knows how to challenge you while also reminding you that you are strong. I tend to be my own harshest critic, and he has a way of gently calling that out while still celebrating real progress and wins. His cues are incredibly clear and precise. Because of that, I can truly activate the muscles I’m working on instead of just moving through exercises. I’m a breast cancer survivor and a former marathon runner with significant knee damage. Over the past 10 years, Matt is my fifth trainer, and he stands out as one of the best. I had previously only worked with women, but Matt’s style, care, and attention to detail have helped me rebuild strength and control in areas I never thought I’d regain. He is actively helping me rehabilitate function in my knees in ways I honestly did not think were possible. As a result, I’m more mobile and experiencing far less knee and joint pain. MYO Lab itself is also a standout. The state-of-the-art, smart equipment is thoughtfully designed and truly supports better form and body awareness, which complements Matt’s coaching perfectly. I’ve been training with Matt at Myo Lab for 9 months and I couldn’t recommend it more. I came into training with a rotator cuff injury and was hoping to rehab and strengthen my shoulder. I had attempted to do it on my own with help from a physical therapist and hadn’t gotten the results I needed. Matt has such incredible knowledge of how the body works and was able to use strength training to get my shoulder back in shape and continue to get stronger. As someone who worked out from home, I hadn’t realized that my form was creating issues and barriers, and having Matt there to instruct and tailor a program specifically for me and my needs has been so helpful.
