We are very happy with the results from Shield K9 Ottawa. We sent our new rescue puppy for a 4 week board and train to work on leash walking, basic commands, and reactivity. Sophie was the primary trainer for our puppy and did an excellent job. She would send updates on his training progress and we were welcomed to have weekly visits to see our puppy, and play outside in their large fenced yards. He now knows all the basic commands and walks well on leash, his reactivity is significantly better and we have the tools to manage appropriately. Shield took a wonderful dog and made him perfect for us. Could not have asked for better results. We signed up for the 5 session training package after the board and train, which has been very helpful for us to continue to practice the training methods our puppy already knew. We had an excellent experience with Shield K9 and especially with our trainer, Greg. Our puppy, Nova, completed her initial training here, and we couldn’t be happier with the results. The entire team was incredibly professional, caring, and clearly passionate about what they do. Greg was patient, knowledgeable, and great at explaining everything in a way that made it easy for us as owners to follow through at home. Nova made amazing progress, and we’re really looking forward to returning to continue her training. Highly recommend Shield K9 to anyone looking for quality training for their dog

I highly recommend dog training at Shield K9 Ottawa. My five-year old, male, neutered Border Collie-Australian Shepherd cross was put on an Ottawa By-Law leash and muzzle order this summer. I contacted Shield K9 Ottawa for training to correct my dog's behaviour and improve my dog handling as part of the appeals process. I was embarrassed about the situation but Greg Borger (Managing Partner, Trainer) made no judgements. He simply asked for details, followed up with questions, and then had my dog and me come in for an assessment. Greg watched us, asked more questions, identified issues, and then made recommendations. We chose six private lessons and Greg assigned us to Sophie. Like Greg, Sophie made no judgements and concentrated on solving the problems. Smoothly handling the leash, collars, treats, and other items has always been a challenge and Sophie provided specific instructions, rather than loose guidelines. Sophie was a firm, fair coach, and it's obvious she loves dogs by the way she treated mine. Within two lessons my dog's behaviour and my dog handling skills dramatically improved. We also included a lesson so Sophie could impart the same guidance to my wife. The facility's indoor and outdoor spaces were clean, comfortable, and allowed for training in a variety of scenarios. At the Ottawa Animal Control Tribunal in the fall I presented evidence of my dog's training in the form of videos and notes and the leash and muzzle order was revoked. Of course that was the original goal but the greatest thing I got out of this was an improved relationship with my dog and Shield K9 Ottawa helped make that happen. As you can see from the photo, they helped make him a really relaxed dog. If you need training, go to Shield K9 Ottawa. If you and your dog got in trouble, go to Shield K9 Ottawa. And if you go, listen to them. They are polite, professional, and have your dog's best interests and your best interests at heart.

I have an Aussie, and he is smart, playful and has lots of energy. I was influenced by dog sports and wanted to try dock diving with him. He is a tentative boy, and Sarah was wonderfully patient, and tried a few different tools to get him jumping off the dock. She shared insights on dog motivation, reward and drive. We were successful in building up his excitement to be at the pool, getting used to the ramp and finally, Archie running down the ramp and jump off the end in a smooth motion. We started this journey last year, and have continued it this year and plan to rent time at the pool next year and continue building his confidence in jumping off the dock. In the meantime, I thank Sarah for her help with not only dock diving but helping me with a more balanced approach to training my enthusiastic Aussie.

This summer we started learning Dock Diving for our Border Collie who is obsessed with water. Sarah was amazing teaching us and guiding how to instil confidence in our dog. For anyone looking to try dock diving I highly recommend booking with them! The instructors are friendly, knowledgeable, and the facility is super clean!
