The food is great, although quite pricey! The steak was absolutely fantastic the depth of flavour of the Glacian beef is to be commended. Really spectacular. Service was impeccable, especially at a very busy Saturday evening service. Perfect for date night or treat. Factor in the 12.5% tip added to bill!
We had booked the Spanish Butcher to celebrate our son’s 21st birthday, reviews were good , recommendations were also very good so we were all looking forward to it . The moment we walked in the door the staff were lovely and the atmosphere was just what we were looking for , everything was set for a wonderful meal . I went for the scallop starter and my wife and son chose the grilled octopus, we all agreed that the starters were nothing special, I’ve had much nicer scallops at home and the octopus was pretty bland . For the mains I wanted to push the boat out and seeing as my son and I both like medium /rare we went for the Galician porterhouse ( £150 ) , and my wife went for the Galician fillet (43 ) , we also had some Sauted potatoes , bone marrow , cheese truffle fries and a couple of sauces , 1 peppercorn and 1 garlic butter. For a pudding I had the sticky toffee pudding and my son had the cheesecake and my wife had a Gin sorbet. The biggest disappointment by far was the steak , it was tough as old boots and almost impossible to cut through, my wife never enjoyed hers either. The peppercorn sauce was nice but the garlic butter we never even touched it was basically a pot of oil ! . I know I should have complained on the night but my son would have hated that and it would have made the night even worse ! My wife and I shared a bottle of wine (£52) and my son had 1 beer and the total came to £374.06 . I have absolutely no problem paying for a nice meal , the fact that they add an automatic service charge of 12.5% is disgusting (£41.56 ). To summarise, The starter was supposed to be king scallops , it may have been 1 scallop cut into quarters but it certainly wasn’t king scallops !! , the octopus was like rubber , the mains , the porterhouse steak was as tender as rubber and full of solid fat . The deserts , I’ve had better microwave sticky toffee pudding , my wife and son enjoyed there’s . I can’t recommend the Spannish Butcher’s food but I do highly rate the staff and the atmosphere. I will not be back
Simply the best meal I've ever had. The service is worth mentioning as it was attentive but not interrupting, like real professional waiting staff should be. Absolutely wonderful!
Much better value for money for a nice dinner in town compared to nearby fancy’ish places! Excellent service and delicious food! A side dish is included if you get an entree, I got the bone marrow - highly recommended!
We visited the Spanish Butcher for a birthday meal. It was a 215pm booking and the restaurant was pretty empty. The staff were ok, but setting the standards low but when we got seated the chap was keen to walk away and we just about got drinks from him. He did come back with the drinks pretty quick but rushed off right away. Starters we got prawns and then scallops. Both dishes were nice. For mains we got the fish and I got gelecian fillet Med rare. The fish was nice and best part no bones. The steak was pretty decent for the price. It was seared very very nice. As it was my birthday meal the restaurant did give a card. Nice touch. If your reading this far your see why I dropped 2 stars on food. For the price the prawns was a good size but the scallops were really small. I should drop 2 stars we had a stone in the lentils and typically I ended up crunching down and chipped a filling. I did show the staff they said sorry and gave us a free dessert. Not 2 but one. Drinks was a reason I added a food star as they were really reasonable in price. Not a typical rip off with restaurants these days I’m not sure I would return. But would say this place is worth a shot
